Amazon.com Product Description About Milwaukee Compact Series Cordless Drills Milwaukee manufacturers its signature red power tools to be powerful, versatile, and rugged -- and this all-new compact series of cordless drills features the exclusive Clip-Lok system. Clip-Lok provides convenient, hands-free transportation of the drill, while at the same time it offers a convenient place to store the tool while you're working, because it attaches securely to your belt so the drill is always within reach. About This Compact Cordless Drill and Work Light The 0612-26 is a representative of Milwaukee's new compact series of cordless power tools. With its small profile and light body weight, this drill/driver is designed for use in tight quarters; and its Clip-Lok belt attachment keeps it close at hand. Loaded with convenience and power features, the 0612-26 has a 20-position clutch and a 1/2-inch single-sleeve ratcheting chuck that gets a great grip on bits for less slipping and minimal downtime. It also has a cushioned, non-slip soft-grip handle that reduces vibration and keeps your hands comfortable for solid, precise operation at all times -- plus on-board bit storage to stash up to two extra bits when you're not using them. The patented reversible battery feature lets you turn the battery around in case you need to squeeze the drill into someplace tight. The included work light also features the Clip-Lok system for hands-free operation wherever you need it. Both the light and the drill/driver operate from the same 14.4-volt battery pack (two included). This kit also comes with a charger, a no. 2 Phillips bit, the Clip-Lok belt attachment, and a carrying case to keep the whole set together and organized. Great drill, bad NiCad batteries June 24, 2008 I purchased this 14.4 combo set back in December 2006. It is now June 2008 and one of my batteries is totally dead. I use the drill heavily. I depend on both batteries. Now I am down to one and the warranty for NiCad batteries is 1 year. I like the drill but now instead of spending mucho $$$ on another battery I will probably go with a different brand.
Drill and worklight are both great though, just not without a battery.
Best Damn Cordless Tool Ever! April 9, 2008 I'm a professional maintainance man for a county jail...I use the Milwaukee 14.4 volt driver drill EVERY DAY...I've dropped it from a 6' ladder...it's been soaked with water and it still runs GREAT! When it came time for me to upgrade my cordless tool at HOME the first thing I thought of was the Milwaukee I use every day at work! To be honest...what I wanted most was the WORKLIGHT. This thing ROCKS! Wether I'm under a sink or deep in a pipe chase the 14.4 volt worklight shines BRIGHT. This tool has been splashed with water and it still keeps lighting the way! Another feature that sets the Milwaukee apart from the rest is the multi position battery...You can place the battery in two positions-depending on the situation or your prefrence...I prefer the "reversed" battery position for better tool ballance. So for the professional: this tool will NOT LET YOU DOWN! And for the homeowner: this will be the last cordless driver/drill you will ever need! You WILL NOT WEAR IT OUT!! ~HANDY RANDY
Caveats to this Drill October 5, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Don't get me wrong - the drill is GREAT. The problem is the battery - if you don't use them on a regular basis, they lose their charge - forever. Milwaukee has a manual on how to "jump start" dead batteries, but it's a half-baked solution. The truth is, NiCad batteries from Milawaukee are seriously flawed for the occasional user. Probably great for a tradesman.
I have a similar Porter Cable drill - the drill itself is junk compared to the Milwaukee. But, the batteries have lasted forever. Not sure what the difference is, but buyer beware. I'd suggest going to the Lithium Ion models.
Mr. Milwaukee September 28, 2007 Excellent set of Milwaukee tools.
This is my first Milwaukee cordless and I am impressed with the power of the 14.4 volt system. I also particularly like that the battery and be changed in it's position to help balance vertical or horizontal drilling.
Maybe 3.5 Stars. August 16, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a nice set to buy, with the light coming in VERY handy on the the job. Both the drill and light are well built and rugged except the plastic chuck, but other than that can't complain there.
The battery life isn't the best but it's good enough, the problem is that I have three batteries for this drill right now and two are dead. Milwaukee is doing a recall but only on one of the batteries so if i want to replace the other one its about 50 bucks.
My biggest concern however is the lack of a variable speed trigger. The drill's trigger is basically on or off..which is terrible when doing anything precise such as cabinets. *UPDATE* IT turns out that my trigger was defective. It was fixed under Milwaukee's FANTASTIC warranty. Couldn't be happier with that.
the reversible battery is nice but the drill is a bit wide for tight spaces, I've tried the panasonic 15.6v and its a bit more convenient in that department. As far as torque and rpm it's very respectable for the 14.4v range, but using it for a drill with auger or spade bits eats up the batteries which in my experience haven't lasted all that long.
Looking at the market now i'd probably lean towards the makita li-ion drills, theyre compact and strong. I can't knock Milwaukee they're just a well built tool, but I think they're much stronger in the corded category than in cordless.
