Amazon.com Product Description Tired of that battery-powered drill being dead when you need it most? Here's an alternative. Surprisingly powerful and stunningly lightweight, Black & Decker's SC1400 18-Volt Cordless drill kit features the best energy-to-weight ratio and longest-lasting charge available. A very forgiving power drill for those who hate cords but forget to recharge, this tool is powered by a lithium-ion battery that holds a charge up to 18 months longer than nickel-cadmium tools. A state-of-charge indicator tells you how much battery power is left so you know when it's time for a recharge. And, a fixed, internal battery lets you just drop the whole tool into the included charging base, rather than detaching the battery from the tool and then attaching it to the charger, a procedure that sometimes takes longer than just drilling the darn hole. And, for even less downtime, the tool's single sleeve all-metal chuck means easier and faster bit swaps. Designed for tough drilling and driving applications, the tool packs 200 percent more power than traditional 18-volt drills. It's also 40 percent smaller and 30 percent lighter for easier handling, even in tight quarters. The purchase is covered by a manufacturer 2-year warranty. --Brian Olson What's in the Box: cordless drill/driver, charging base, 16 bits (8 driving tips and 8 drill bits).

It is exactly what you would expect July 23, 2008 This is a nice, compact drill/driver. The quality and performance are great for everyday projects and it has the capacity to take on the occasional big job. I like the stand-charger. It is convenient and sturdy. The drill itself is well balanced and has the power to get through most anything you can throw at it. I am looking forward to using the lithium-ion battery and expect it to be a welcome change to the Ni-Cads of the past. I also like the power indicator on the drill itself; nice touch.
Too bad that the battery can not be swapped out but I am hopeful that this won't be a problem with the Li-Ion set up.
This is a good "go to" unit for most day to day needs. That being said, I am glad that I also have my 18v powerhouse with dual batteries for bigger projects to back me up.
Nice unit, good price.
A convient and powerful tool May 10, 2008 It is powerful and compact. It comes very handy to do chores around the house.
Good beginner drill February 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have many high quality cordless drills. I bought this one for the around the house basic stuff and for the wife to use. It is small, lightweight, 14.4v drill that has a non-removable battery so battery servicing will be difficult. The charge cradle works well to keep the battery topped up and the Li Ion cell has no memory effect! It seems quite powerful for its size and is easy to operate. The major downside is the lack of enough clutch settings, which can make precise driving of fasteners difficult at times. Apart from that, it would make a good basic drill as an intro into the Lithium Ion drill type.
Black & Decker SC1400 Cordless Lithium Drill November 28, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Purchased for a gift for son-in-law. He really likes it because it is light weight and really powerful. My husband has one too and agrees. It's alot easier to use because it weights less than regular drills.
Is this the lowest priced lithium ion drill? November 18, 2007 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is not a review but a question for customers who has done some research on this item. My Skil drill's two NiCd batteries just died and I am looking for a replacement. For those who had bought this drill, I wonder if this is the lowest priced lithium ion drill on the market...
