I'm not experienced, but it's a good lathe from what I can tell! December 27, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I opened it up and started working on it right away. It's very smooth and precise. There is was a little play in the cross slide, but some simple adjustments with the included hex wrench fixed it. I have since disassembled the easily accessible parts and cleaned and greased them. It works great after a week. I'm working with aluminum mostly, and it just cuts it like butter. I was nervous about paying the $516 (including shipping) for an import lathe. But it is working well so far. The change gears are plastic and make noise when the auto feed is engaged, but I hear that's very common. I'm hoping that the plastic gears will be cheap to replace IF they break, but no problems so far. I haven't tried cutting threads yet, so we'll see how that goes. But I've been impressed with it so far.
