The main improvement over the last generation is the battery source: lithium-ion. There are so many reasons to applaud. Lithium holds its charge up to six times longer in storage than nickel-cadmium batteries, so it's ready when you are. Remember the disappointment when you were ready and your battery was low? That won't happen with this one. It's got a battery fuel gauge that tells you how much life is left before a recharge, so you won't be caught without your Dremel, and if you choose to keep it on its charger, you won't cause memory and shorten the charge capacity. Excellent Dremel. After owning powered and battery operated ones, this Dremel works best. No cords, long lasting battery. Excellent choice.

I have been using a Dremel tool for a long time, the old ones had great ball bearings and powerful motors. Today, both the cordless nad the corded units are mass producted and the quality is fair at best. I have gone thru three of these 10.8 volt cordless. As soon as it heats up during normal use, it shuts off or starts to smoke. Once they smoke they have had it! Buy a new one. Customer service is great, but the tools are not what they use to be.

This Dremel cordless rotary tool is great. Bought it for craft and hobby work but found out right away that it is more than a craft tool. Used it to cut the frame on my son's car for a hitch installation. Get one you will love it.
Dremel LION cordless July 14, 2008
I have been very happy with the tool. Though I never had one of the previous models, I am glad I waited to get it with a cordless and LION battery vrs Nicad battery. It has worked flawlessly so far.
There are several attachments that have come with it but I have not had the opportunity to diversify and use them yet. I got this mainly to start helping me remove grout between tiles. It works fine with this task though I realize it is going to take a lot of time since I am removing the grout for our entire kitchen floor.
I would highly recommend this tool and consider it a valuable addition to my tools. I am also doing some baseboard replacements in my house and intend to use the Dremel to help match the ends of the baseboards too. From reading the guide that comes with the tool, there seems to be a number of projects I will be able to use this tool for in the days ahead.
The attachments are a bit pricey though as one add'l attachment cost me $15 at Home Depot. It might be worth looking for a one off attachment set that would give a number of the specialized attachments needed.

Great product, excellent price, free shipping....This dremel works great, holds the charge well, and accomplishes many tasks which I've performed with this tool. Highly recommended!!
