| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com This one's a bit of a paradox: The do-it-yourselfer might pass by this compressor in favor of an oil-free, no-maintenance model, but it's actually one of the best on the market for the homeowner, hobbyist and weekend warrior. There are three factors that made us form this opinion. First, it's the quietest compressor we've ever encountered. It's a remarkable departure in a genre of tools that normally force you to suspend conversation while it's cycling. The MAC700 puts out 80 decibels, according to the folks at Makita, and when you compare that to the 90 and up you get from most units, that's practically a hum. So we like this for household use, especially in a basement shop. Next on our list of pluses for the DIY-er is the low-amp draw, and with that, fewer trips to the breaker box and less chance of premature motor failure. The other feature that won us over is the easy-on-the-hand lever handle ball valve that saves your knuckles when you drain the tank. It's also got a really fast cycle, so by the time you take a sip of water, you're ready to work again. It's made like a champ, with a roll-bar handle that protects your investment, a cast-iron cylinder for durability and an oil sight glass that makes maintenance a breeze.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste What's in the Box Oiled single hot dog compressor with handle; 1/4-inch brass Makita universal coupler

oh my its quiet!!! September 5, 2008 this is a great all around small compressor...and its very quiet...its really really quiet. We use this for finish work, light framing, and any time we don't need our big boy. The unit works well, is solid, has an excellent roll cage, the bleeder is in the perfect location for daily service, and its very stable when placed. The only down side is weight...for a small unit its heavy...but thats not always a bad thing...
PS: no shipping issues here it was surrounded by ISO foam so was perfect...
makita hotdog compressor August 22, 2008 this is very quite, handles the nail guns ok but for even detail spaying you need a double tank
Perfect One-Gun Compressor August 22, 2008 I read all the Amazon reviews for this and similar products before I bought. I'm pleased to report that my MAC700 arrived in perfect condition and performs as well as other users have reported. It is extremely well built and quiet. Note that this unit's heavy-duty motor requires an oil bath (oil provided). The only downside of this machine is that it's a little top-heavy. Thus it is inclined to tip over if loaded into a car making high-speed turns. This resulted in a small spot in the back of my mini-van.
Well made. Quiet, especially if... August 17, 2008 Got this a few days ago and have been playing with it. It looks and feels very well made. The pump itself is very solidly made of castings, with the cylinder and cylinder head clearly visible and cast with large and heavy cooling fins. But it's pretty easy to lift and balances well under the handle, which is integral to a very clean bent and welded steel tube frame. There was no shipping damage. This is pretty quiet. After listening and feeling around I found the seam where the two halves of the intake air filter join was a major source of what noise there was, and I put a wrap of electrical tape around this seam. This made the compressor very quiet indeed. In the next room, with the door open, a little fan we already had running covered the sound of the compressor. I like the fact that this thing takes oil. The oil fill cap is right on the end (it's the end not visible in the photo). Just below that is a big window with a dot in the middle to show the proper fill level. The compressor comes with a small bottle of oil. It's obvious and easy how to fill this properly. This seems like a machine to keep running for a long time, rather than a cheap and disposable one. Wow, what a nice product, especially for a hundred and something.
Exceptional Product July 27, 2008 After reading numerous reviews about shipping damage with this item, I was still inclined to order one considering the good reports on performance and good experience with getting damaged units repaired.
Mine arrived in perfect condition.... works great and compared to typical diaphragm compressors is FAR quieter.... motor runs at ~1700 RPM rather than 3600 RPM which contributes to quietness.
This compressor is no light weight but it is not too heavy to carry for short distances and the weigh is part of the reason it is so quiet and likely very durable. The components, air fittings, and other parts are high quality.
I read reviews of numerous compressors and all the comparisons led me to this model as the best choice.... it IS! You will not be disappointed in this unit!
