Awesome Machine December 13, 2007 This Impact Driver was refered to me by my uncle who is also a carpenter. I can't describe how much easier it is to drive screws. One thing I was impressed with was how close your gripping hand is able to be near the screw head. Other handles on screw guns are further back and make screwing more wobbly. I hope this has made sense. To a veteran screw gun user it should make sense. I strongly recommend this item. Richard
Priceless where and when you need it July 6, 2007 I purchased this tool to fix a little problem I was having while remodeling my basement. When attempting to sister up new 2x4s to old 2x4s my drill would cam out using both square drive and Phillips bits. My friends and I joked that the old wood was petrified. As I already have a host of other 18 volt DeWalt tools I got this one to match (two new batteries are nice to add to the rotation too). The impact driver drove the 2.5 and 3 inch screws home with no problem.
I love this tool. It works where I need it.
That said please note that I do not/can not use this tool for basic drilling needs. It does not have enough power to be used for most automotive tasks as it has only 98 ft lbs force and most pneumatics have 300-700 ft lbs force. Also note that with no clutch (which it should not have) you should not attempt to use this for finish wood work.
Good, but... June 27, 2007 It's a very powerful unit with a fantastic compact design. I was a little dissapointed in the 1/4" only drive mechanism. I didn't seem to find that little detail anywhere in the advertisement or specs for this product. The owner's manual states quite a few model numbers that do have 1/2" drive mechanisms. Heck, 3/8" would have been great to.
1,170 lbs of torque is a very good number, I just can't seem to find 1/4" drive extensions that can handle the pressure.
Great tool May 2, 2007 This is by far my favorite tool. I have used it to do everything while repairing a house that had not been taken care of for 20 years. HVAC, cabinetry, plumbing, siding, fence, I mean everything that required a fastener. I also have the DeWalt DC900KL hammer drill and even though the hammer drill is a 36 volt this little 18v is much more powerful. Also the batteries last an exceptionally long time. This tool is also small (at least to me) and can get in places where some drills, including my right angle, can't
The only thing you can't do is drill holes with this unless you have quick change drill bits. However those bits are more expensive than regular ones. The solution for this is an adapter that will fit in the shaft and act as a keyless chuck.

This tool is awesome. I am a seamless gutter installer and this one out performs any other cordless driver i've used. It's lighter ,has more torque, and the batteries out last our 14.4 guns 3:1. It is the only kind we will continue to purchase. Thanks, Brian Laker
