Great Accessory May 13, 2008 Although it did not come with any directions I saw, installation was a snap. I left the clamp loose so it did not interfere with rotating the table. It's a great place to keep the chuck key and bits. It swings out of the way easily. It has a set of indexed holes where you can keep your common bits. A bit expensive for a big hose clamp, a bent piece of chrome plated metal and two pieces of plastic.
Works Fine February 25, 2006 This unit doesn't work out well when used on benchtop drill presses. There is only limited vertical travel of the table on the column. When the table is being moved to its lowest position, it hits the tray where fastened to the column, limiting the travel of your table. Benchtop drill presses already have limited travel range. Bottom line: If you have a benchtop drill press, you won't be happy about purchasing this item. I actually took it off the machine after repeatedly hitting it with the table or table crank handle. Delta needs to re-engineer the fastening part of this item to move with the table - not placed on the stationary column.
Occasionally handy device December 30, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had one of these trays mounted on my Delta 17-925 drill press for years. While I don't use it very often, it does come in handy on occasion. If you slip bits not being used into the tray holes, they can't roll away or get lost, plus the tray itself is a tiny table. My press is next to a radial arm saw, and when the saw's table is too dusty or messy with other tools, that's another time the tray is useful. All in all, this is hardly a mandatory purchase, but it is nice to have. If it broke, I'd probably get another one...
Broken Utility Tray August 5, 2005 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
The package arrived unharmed. The contents was another story. Three of the drill bit wells were broken off and rolling around in the box. I had to glue them onto the tray. The clamp that attaches the tray to the drill press was the wrong size. It was huge. Even adjusted to its smallest size it couldn't hold the tray to the drill press. I had to buy a new clamp at a hardware store. It is obvious to me that someone threw a broken tray into an intact box, replaced a missing clamp with a wrong-sized one, and sold it as new. I have never made a worse purchase through Amazon.com.
It does what it is supposed to! October 28, 2004 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have had one of these in my home shop for a few years now. Although it is sturdy and mounted in a very handy position, I find that I just don't use it all that much. All I really keep on mine is the chuck key. Since my drill bits do double duty in my heavy duty hand-held drill, I keep them in a more portable container, not on this tray.
Despite all that though, it is worth the money and it does just what you would want it to do!
