| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Review Purist furniture makers frown on the plate joiner, or biscuit joiner as it's often called, but this model might change a few minds. The joinery ease is unparalleled with this method, and Makita really knows its business. This model offers a 10,000 rpm, 5.6 amp motor, six cutting depths for different biscuit sizes, and a precision fence that angles with positive stops at 0, 45, and 90 degrees. Changing biscuit sizes is as quick and easy as turning the adjustment dial. The rack-and-pinion fence's action is as smooth as any on the market at this level, and our test cuts were clean and dead-on accurate. Sure, you can keep on cutting mortise and tenon joints if you want to, but the smart woodworker is taking one of these home. For us, it falls squarely into the gotta-get-one category. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Awesome tool October 25, 2008 I chose this model based on the Amazon reviews and previous experience with a makita random orbital palm sander. The other reviews do a great job listing the details, pros and cons.
I had never used a plate joiner before but was up and running in 3 minutes. I was doing a project with Ipe (aka Ironwood). Ipe is one of the densest woods available and just kills regular blades. I plowed through the project quickly. The motor didn't break a sweat and carbide cutters were begging for more.
If you do any woodworking at all, just buy one.
Fence September 14, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Simple to use, excellent power. Whats' with the fence. I am disappointed with this Biscuit Joiner. I bought a 14.4V cordless Makita and was so happy using it that I bougth the MBJ very dissapointed. The fence is a joke. Hope they improve on the fence.
nice tool, a bit noisy March 25, 2008 nice and much more precise joiner than my Dewalt, however the motor is a bit noisy.
Wow - Great Makita Quality February 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When you buy a Makita tool, you know that you are getting quality and this is no exception. I am probably an intermediate woodworker so the higher end guys may frown on using biscuits, but this a style issue that transcends this tool. The joiner cuts clean holes and has great safety features. The biscuit cut depth is adjustable so it can work with almost any stock. I use it all the time to do 90% mock-ups of all my cabinets, etc before final glue up. I can not express how great biscuit joints work and how easy they are to cut with this product. Another great one from Makita.
Adequate but not Outstanding February 19, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Makita Plate Joiner is adequate. It cleanly cuts space for bisquits and stock can certainly be joined. However, the switch does not permit finger control. You turn on the machine, then position it and cut. My old Porter Cable overcame this disadvantage and was easier and more accurate to use as a result. I wish I had bought the Porter Cable model again (mine was stolen).
