Amazon.com Review When we bought our first router, we agonized over whether to buy a fixed base or a plunge. Well, we went for the fixed base; in fact, it was this model's predecessor, the Porter-Cable 690. But just as you'd imagine, we also ended up buying a plunge router later on. Had this deal been available back then, we'd have snapped it up. It offers one of the best basic fixed-base routers on the market with a second base that turns it into a plunge. The fixed base has P-C's neat micrometer ring adjustment that lets you raise or lower your bit just a hairsbreadth. This set is ideal for mounting the fixed base in a router table and lifting the body out to use in the plunge base, which, by the way, operates smoothly, has a nice chip deflector, and includes a convenient plunge lock right next to the handle. It also features a six-position stop turret with a 2-1/2-inch plunge range. Best of all, it offers all the durability and smooth, reliable performance of the original 690 model, with a little more horsepower and a new take on the depth adjustment that prevents the motor from ever accidentally falling out of the base. If you're looking for bells and whistles, shop up the line a little more, but if you're looking for a solid workhorse with great accuracy and reliability along with the plunge option, this is a great deal. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

PORTER CABLE 693LRK REVIEW April 28, 2008 A great product and set. Easy to use and very accurate. Great power for the size and price.
Great Flexiable Router February 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great and flexiable router. Moving between the two bases is very quick. The ease with which the fixed base can be removed makes it very easy to change bits and make adjustment. Pleanty of power and works great in all task especially cutting dovetails.
Great Product, Great Price January 16, 2008 When I decided I needed another "mid-sized" router, the choice was simple. I bought my first Porter Cable "690" series router with a plunge base back in the early 90's ($189). It was used professionally for about 5 years and has since been used in my home shop. Other models owned personally, by co-workers and friends have come and gone but my experience with Porter Cable has amounted to hundreds of hours of use with no problems. I purchased the 693LRPK for two main reasons. (1) Quality. (2) My old router and the 693 fixed and plunge bases are interchangeable. Some might say it is short on features and needs updating but I don't mind having to use two wrenches for bit changes (no collet lock) and I don't mind the size and weight. I believe it is a direct relation to the power and quality.
Out of the box there are only 2 noticable differances from my original. The on/off switch is no longer a toggle but a rocker type and the plunge base lever is plastic not metal. Use reveals plenty of power with accurate cuts so at this point, I am going to assume the unseen (quality) has changed little if at all.
Affordable and powerful set-up January 12, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Havent had a chance to take this pup out for a spin but I used to use a similar model in a shop I used to work in. The quality is still there for PC and you can feel it with both the stops and the motor. Feels like your actually holding onto something made to last....which lately has been a new concept!
Works like a champ January 3, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Since I bought this router I have made a number of picture frames, and beveled my fence slats on one of my rental homes. Never a problem with it.
