Amazon.com Product Description The Freud 3-1/4 HP Electronic Variable Speed Plunge Router can serve as a handheld router, or, when mounted under a table, it can take the place of a more expensive spindle shaper. The powerful 3-1/4 HP 15 Amp motor with electronic speed control provides a soft-start feature that lets you choose how fast you want to go--from 10,000-to-22,500 RPM. It also maintains a constant torque and RPM. The included micro-adjustable depth control makes accurate vertical settings quick and easy. Other features include a sliding shaft lock, a convenient plunge lock, a quick-release depth stop, a 1/2-inch collet with a 1/4-inch collet reducer, and a four-position depth-stop turret. The unit comes with a 1-year limited manufacturer's warranty.

Freud FT2200EP April 12, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a very flexible and powerful router for the money. Casting is rough, and some accessories (dust port) seem very much an afterthought. Bought from Amazon, was not packed well and arrived with handles cracked. But I called Freud and could not be more pleased with their courtesy and speed of response. Still had me hunting for a rare metric bolt to replace handles with slightly revised version of handle for this Spanish made router. So my overall impression is mixed but generally positive.
Recently received this router. April 4, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Router technology has changed quite a bit since buying my 1HP plunge in 1993. This router has real depth control, a speed setting so you can match the manufacturers specification, and it maintains that speed whether you're cutting through an easy or difficult patch of the same board. The on/off switch is easy to use and so is installing and removing router bits. It handles 1/2" and 1/4" bits. The later uses an adapter that comes with the router. The tool provided is solid too - not junk that comes with many routers. The fence is more than just the typical steel bar you can bolt a wood fence to. It has an adjustment - really nice. I got this on sale on Amazon for $132. It's worth the non-sale price. If weight is an issue for you this is a heavy unit.
FT2200E Review April 5, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have 2,FT2200E routers that are 12yrs old, so I am well pleased with their durability. The features I like best are(depth adjustment)very easy,(variable speed)very smooth and easy bit change in router table.
The new one I bought recently is very smooth. I think it's the best router on the market for the money.
buyers beware! March 13, 2007 7 out of 13 found this review helpful
I bought an earlier model FT2000E and the power switch failed within 18 months (of very infrequent use). Since the warranty is only for 1 year, the manufacturer will not repair the unit for free. As far as I can tell, the FT2200 is identical to the FT2000 albeit a different plastic casing.
An update: Fixed the problem myself. A copper contact shaped like a tiny rivet in the DPDT switch fell off its armature. A bit of solder should hold it in place indefinitely. The electrical contact should have been welded or crimped securely to the armature. A poorly made switch. I will not be surprised if the power switch in most of these routers should fail after some use.
Plenty of power & features for a great price... January 19, 2007 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
Using raised panel bits and large profile cuts are no longer a problem.
Easy bit changes.
cast motor housing including the height tensioner...
easy adjustments.
I paid $194 with free super saver shipping... so GREAT Price as well.
