I have never owned or operated a router in my lifetime. My wife and I decided we would construct our own cabinets because we have seven children and the cabinets at Lowes and Home Depot are expensive to purchase and use cheap materials. Imagine a pressed fiber board drawer with little staples holding everything together when your ingenious two year old opens up the drawers to make a ladder to get onto the counter top so they can reach that piece of candy that mom put up high because the child was not to have it until after dinner! I like you, read the reviews and decided on the Triton router. The instructions on the router were complete for a novice to figure out how to use the machine. The controls are easy to use and are precise and hold their position while making the most difficult cuts. The motor is smooth with little vibration leaving one with little to sand after a cut is made. The only issue I had was one of my own stupidity. When the router is in a table the bit should be able to come up enough so that you can get onto it with the wrench to change bits. It never seemed to come up enough and I caused a little damage trying to release the bit with the wrench going down through the table. Remember if you buy this router that it has a safety feature that won't let the bit go all the way up unless the router on/off switch is turned off. Can't be the table is turned off the router must be turned off and then the bit will go up that extra 1" so one can change bits in a few seconds!

This is a great product for the router table, since it has above the table adjustment and bit changes (including bit ejection, no more stuck bits). First you must take out the springs for the plunge action for optimum table use.
It has one draw back for free hand routing and that is the on/off switch which is awkward to move to the on position since there is a safety cover that needs to be moved and the switch pushed at the same time. On the router table, you should have a separate in line on/off switch anyway so the safety cover is not used and the switch on the tool is left on all the time. I sold two other routers in order to buy a swcond one of these.
the best router kit April 8, 2008
I reciently purchessed the triton router to replace a PC router in my router table. I was amazed when I recieved it. This is the best package money can buy. It has everything you could want in the kit. I am using it as a table router and it is a powerhouse. If you are looking for a great set up spend the money and buy this one.
Triton 2 1/4 HP router March 5, 2008
This is an awesome router. I started some years ago with a Craftsman model that was basic, then upgraded a couple of years ago to a Bosch router. This Router has a bunch of excellent features and it seems very well made. Definitely great value for money. I've only done 2 jobs with it so far using 1/2 inch Tungsten Carbide 3/8 rounding bit for some shadow boxes. It ate the job on no time - very nice Router. Australian design - Taiwan made - a good combination. Recommended

I used this router on a table for about 20 hours and was pleased with performance until the microadjuster stopped working. I found that the micro-adjust universal shaft was made of nylon and was stripped. I contacted Triton and there advice was to not use the microadjuster to raise and lower the router , only for fine adjustment, due to the stress it puts on the nylon shaft. This defeats the purpose of using a raiser on a router table.
They said they were working on the problem and the repair part was on back order. If your going to use a router on a table I would consider other brands.
