Amazon.com Review Strong suction and surprisingly quiet operation make this heavy-duty steel vacuum the ideal tool for keeping garages and workshops spick and span. Powered by a 12-amp motor, robust airflow inside the tank keeps dirt from adhering to the Airwash self-cleaning filter. Combined with Hoover's unique E-Z Empty design, this means no messy cleanup, and no bags and filters to buy or replace. The rugged, crush-proof hose is 30 feet long, easily reaching across a garage and into cars, while the wall-mount tank stays in place. No special exhaust vents or electrical lines are needed for this vacuum, so installation is a snap: simply mount on the included storage bracket and start cleaning. The six-foot power cord is designed to stay safely plugged in, and the five-gallon tank features enough capacity to clean up the toughest mess. A set of seven attachments serves every possible cleaning need, including two extension wands, two crevice tools, a floor nozzle, upholstery nozzle for car seats, and dusting brush for dashboards and dusty workbenches. A canvas organizer hangs from the hose storage rack to keep attachments neatly stored away. --Mary Park

No time to run August 30, 2008 I can't say how well this unit works because I never ran it. When the unit arrived I noticed a little rattling going on, so because I'm curious I had to know what in the h-ll is wrong with this thing, low and behold upon removing the top of the unit (suffering a laceration on the old fergini)I discovered not to much to my suprise that the plastic motor housing was broken and the bolt to plastic standoff was stripped. I put the unit back together (taking care so as not to recieve another laceration) called Amazon got a return authorization and set her back to wence it came. I got my refund in a timley fashion and all is good. (except I'm running out of band-aids)
The GUV - not just a garage vac August 17, 2008 The very best product I've purchased in a long time. Couldn't be more convenient to use and picks up everything. I do cat rescue and foster many cats and kittens, which means I have to vac daily.
When a friend showed me her Hoover GUV I knew my long search for the perfect machine was over. I keep the GUV in a central area of my 52' ranch home, the 30' hose reaches both ends and everything in between. It's like having central vac without the expense. The GUV is less noisy than my Oreck, and during 95% of it's use I am not near the motor. I have mostly bare flooring, but this machine does a very good job on my area rugs too. I keep the hose coiled in a large basket and it uncoils easily to follow me as I clean. Since I have major back and leg pain, not needing to lug anything around the house makes cleaning almost fun.
The GUV has some great tools included, but I can also use some of my Oreck brushes and even some left from my old Electrolux. In the month that I have been using this product it has done everything I need it to do. I can remove cat hair and scattered litter, vac my draperies, rugs, cat bedding, furniture and everything in between with ease . Purrfectly wonderful.
Good Vac, but things you need to know....... July 2, 2008 Hi folks -
I bought this vac for my garage, and as a vacuum, it functions very well, has great suction, and I really like the extra-long hose that is supplied.
Choose your mounting location wisely and you will be able to clean a car parked in the drive outside of the garage - very nice.
The vac is easy to clean out, and I like the organized mounting of the accessories.
You need to throw out the wall mounting hardware supplied and use better quality drywall anchors, as my unit FELL OFF OF THE WALL after it had been mounted for about a year. You have to take my word for it that I mounted the unit on my wall properly (I did...).
The unit appeared to be rugged enough to withstand the approx. 3.5 foot fall, but unfortunately, the unit was significantly bent, and the motor had become mis-aligned and was not working.
I tried repeatedly to contact Hoover, and let me tell you it is impossible in my experience to be able to talk to a human being from this company.
I first wanted to see if they would help me out because I felt that the supplied mounting hardware was inadequate.
Later, I simply wanted to buy parts to fix my unit, again to no avail.
The company web site and "customer server hotline" simply asks for your zip code and then tells you to go to whatever service shop is in your locale.
Try searching the web for parts for a GUV......I rest my case.
Ultimately, I was able to take my GUV apart and fix the problem (the stator and commutator are assembled with a brittle black plastic "chassis", and that had broken). I was able to use epoxy and now my GUV is working as good or better than new.
So - in the end, I do think this is the best solution for the money that is out there, but I was not as happy with Hoover, a company whom I had thought would take care of a customer.
Since most of the options that come anywhere near the GUV in functionality are more than twice the cost, you can't beat the GUV.
Oh - and it was easy to work on as well.
Good Buy June 13, 2008 I bought this for my barn and have mounted it on a dolly. It has great suction, very versitile, and durable. I would highly recommend it.
Great for what it's good at, not so much anything else. April 3, 2008 I'll keep this short, so people don't feel like they have to read a book to get an opinion.
The GUV works great at smaller cleaning jobs. It can clean a car very quick, it can pickup messes in a hurry. But, it lacks the power of a true shop vacuum system.
The GUV just isn't as strong at picking up. But, unless you need a serious blower or something, you should be fine.
