Amazon.com Product Description
The VPX1301X is powered by Black & Decker's convenient VPX Battery System. | The VPX1301X tears through stray branches, plywood, and even tougher materials like slim metal piping. | Although the cut saw is powerful enough to tackle heavy-duty projects, it's also maneuverable enough to address smaller, more fragile items like wood dowels or drywall. | Introducing the VPX Lithium-Ion Battery System Black & Decker's advanced, powerful VPX system guarantees the convenience of a rechargeable battery with maximum versatility. At the center of the VPX system is the 7-volt high-energy VPX rechargeable battery, which features breakthrough lithium-ion technology to generate more energy in a smaller package. The end result is a battery that's super-compact and 60-percent lighter than Black & Decker's Ni-Cad power tool batteries. And the VPX holds a charge longer, too -- so it's ready to work whenever you are. With its versatile design and Black & Decker exclusive technology, a VPX battery is interchangeable with all the products in Black & Decker's growing VPX line. Swap out one battery for the flashlight, inflator, screwdriver, USB power source, cut saw, or 7-volt drill driver; or double the juice with two batteries to operate the 14-volt drill driver or the hand vac. And of course, every VXP battery and compatible product features the rugged, dependable construction you expect from an industry leader in home power tools. About the Black & Decker VPX Cordless Cut Saw Zip through all kinds of cutting jobs with the new 7-volt VPX cut saw from Black & Decker. This durable saw tool is just one more great offering from the revolutionary new VPX interchangeable lithium-ion battery system. Once you get started with the VPX system, it's easy to expand with other power tools, household devices, and electronic products like this one. Power saws can be intimidating, bulky and noisy; and traditional handsaws can be tiring and inaccurate. Neither saw is versatile enough for everyday cutting around the home, but the VPX1301X combines power and a compact design in a lightweight cordless tool. Truly a grab-and-go item, the cut saw is ideal for quick cuts into baseboard, 1-inch pine, PVC, and more. In fact, the VPX1301X cuts almost anything, anywhere, anytime. The cut saw is powered by a single 7-volt VPX battery. Both the battery and the charger are included, and they are interchangeable with other VPX products. Key Technical Specs:
- Quick Change tool-free blade change system
- VPX battery is interchangeable with all other VPX products
- Up to 1-inch cutting capacity in pine, PVC, and more
Applications Take the VPX1301X outside to make short work of pruning, or trim your Christmas tree down to a more manageable size. Use it to cut plastic pipe under the sink or to modify the fiberboard back of your entertainment center so you can run cords out to your surround-sound speakers. This saw even cuts Closetmaid shelving to make that perfect custom fit. Warranty This VPX product is covered by a two-year warranty from Black & Decker. What's in the box: Black & Decker cordless cut saw, two standard jig saw blades, one 7-volt VPX battery, and charger. Don't waste your money September 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This saw is really a good idea. What it lacks is enough power to cut anything but soft plastic. I have a rechargable carving knife that cuts better than this thing. The battery is too weak for useful operation and I am sure that the development team knew it when before putting out in the market. There is a reason that Retailers are dumping their inventory and B&D is offering free batteries with purchases. You WILL be disappointed.
Little Saw, Big Dissapointment September 4, 2008 Well I bought this as part of the VPX starter system. I thought awesome for the little projects around the house. The first thing I used it for was to cut a hole for a can light in the ceiling. It worked fantastic. However after that it just isn't good for much else. It only lasted me ten minutes before dying. That was after a full 6 hour battery charge. Well I recharged it and got another 8 minutes before dying on me. I was just cutting 3/8" pine into pieces to test it out. So I recharged the battery and tried it in one of my other VPX tools just to make sure the battery was a good one. It lasted long in my other tools. It was good idea, but the nature of the beast is that it sucks power fast! So all in all I think this saw is not worth it at all. Not sure if there is something wrong with mine or if it is the norm, but for me i will stick with my jigsaws, and other tools.
Overall Good Item August 25, 2008 This item works really well for small jobs, I just wish the battery lasted a little longer. I have two spares, so it's not an issue, but if I didn't have them I can imagine it getting a little frustrating. Overall I think it's great for the price.
Great little saw for small jobs May 4, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have a full power, corded Milwaukee Sawzall reciprocating saw, but it's just too big, too heavy, and too corded for the smaller jobs.
The VPX saw isn't a threat to a Sawzall. It can only handle small jobs. It'll choke up on a wet 2x4 or -- horrors -- a 2x4 with a nail in it. So don't use it for that.
Instead, it's great for cutting a small section of PVC or copper pipe. Or pruning a dead branch off a tree. Or a 1x2 or 1x4 or garden stakes. All those little jobs that you really don't want to pull out your handsaw and need a little light help.
The VPX charges well and I'm happy with it -- since I know its limitations.
Goes well with hot glue projects, not with screws or "real" jobs. January 19, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this saw because it looks very handy; like a jig saw for tight places. Great concept, but I was disappointed. The saw lacks power, has no variable speed, and has an overall cheap feel about it. Cutting through 5/8 cabinet face was about all it could handle. Bottom line, this tool is well suited for the uber-scrapbooker, not the construction worker.
