Porter-Cable POWER! May 17, 2008 After researching for several months, through many 'top' brands: Ingersol Rand, Champion, Bel Air and many others, this unit provided the same or better in specs and way better in price. This model was $300 less than the actual 'buy cost' of the local supplier!!!! via Amazon. Item shipped (no ship chg) as stated and came on a lift-gate truck-NO EXTRA CHARGE. Was received in good shape with a couple of small issues-compressor had tipped and bent tank guage, air muffler lid and a couple of small scrapes on tank by decal logo. Looked into a new guage from Porter-Cable, $20+....went to the local compressor store-$3.00-take note! Also they come with a 300psi unit, why? Pump only goes to 175... Warranty is done through Porter-Cable website-easy!. Nice that's it's all prewired. Hooked up the main line and she started right up-VERY quiet by comparison. Also I recommend that a buyer get the 'good' 1" thick square 4"x4" rubber covered cork foot pads. Much better and no need to bolt through to floor-amazing-but true. Has not moved AT ALL! Pump recovers quickly. So far VERY PLEASED. There have been concerns expressed re the aluminum heads-if properly maintained and ventilated, shouldn't be an issue. Tested it out on a custom multilayer flame job on a 55 Nomad-RAN PERFECT!!!! THANX AMAZON AND PORTER-CABLE!
Better Than Ingersoll Rand of same type March 25, 2008 I had purchased a Porter-Cable CPLMC7580V2C 30 Amp 7.5 Horsepower 80 Gallon Oiled Vertical Compressor over 3 years ago and had excellent performance with it until recently. Just recently I've had 2 starter relays burn out which indicates the motor or one of the capacitors is starting to fail. It's being repaired by an authorized service center now. Since I use it daily for 8+ hrs/day under extremely harsh conditions, I would say it served me well.
I bought a comparable version from Ingersoll Rand and had a horible experience which ended with the product being returned and purchasing another Porter Cable of the same model. The IR model drew over 163 amps at start up(even when warm), and the Porter Cable only drew 28 amps startup (very cold weather at new startup even before breakin period). The IR guys could not explain the difference and still claimed it performed as it was designed and like all others on the market would. They could not explain why the Porter Cable ran on less than 28 amps startup load even after replacing their motor and capacitors. In addition to this, the belt was thrown on the IR model and it was noisier.
The new Porter Cable is excellent and even came with a better price than the IR. I will only buy Porter Cable from now on because of this experience.
Not working November 6, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The compressor is only 3 months old and we are waiting for authorization from Porter Cable to have someone come and fix it. In the meantime we can not work because it will not run.
Porter Cable 7580V2c July 5, 2006 This compressor replaces our old two stage 5 hp compressor which lasted 15 years. Our shop runs our compressor 6 days a week for 10 hours per day set at 160 psi. This unit has much more air capacity and is a little quieter also. Hope to get at least the same life out of this new machine. Not sure if I should have looked for one with a cast iron pump. All is good so far.

Amazon had the compressor shipped quickly. It arrived on time with free shipping and a lift gate delivery with no extra charge.
The compressor was bought for use in restoration/modification of autos in a private garage. The compressor replaced a 26 gal 5 Hp peak oil less compressor. The new compressor is quite and quick. From empty to full (175 psi) is just over 6 minutes. When the compressor kicks on with a DA sander running it take just around a minute to fill to 175 psi. The air is many times dryer than what I had before. The air filters are lasting many times longer.
