Great Little Compressor February 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great little compressor. I needed a smaller compressor to sit in the back of my truck and still be able to hook on to my goose neck trailer. This little guy is perfect for the spot I needed it to fit into. My only caution is that you will need to find some way to tie it down if you do any driving on rough roads. The first trip I took down a dirt road it walked its way all the way to the front of the truck bed. It didn't turn over, but sure wasn't where I left it. I use the compressor to fill equipment tires, run an air wrench, and for blowing out tractor radiators and this little guy has done a great job so far. The recovery time is a little slower than I would have liked especially when using it to run the air wrench, but give it just a second and it is ready to go again. It is going to throttle up more often than the bigger compressors, but when you only have four gallons of tank then that is something you have to expect. The Honda motor is great and fires right up. Overall a great compressor.
Great compressor but expect a bad shipping experience! February 7, 2008 I bought this compressor for the portability just like the other reviewers and it delivers. It is a little heavy, but one person can still get it in and out of the truck without assistance. Works great just as others have stated.
This comes UPS, which is the problem. The compressor engine is filled with oil and the packaging is designed to be truck shipped on a pallet and never turned over just as the box states. I guess UPS employee's don't spend a lot of time reading the boxes or being careful with anything. Since the box has little protection if it is turned over and probably will be, expect to have problems in the shipping process. In my case it had been turned over, so the plastic compressor air inlet filter was broken and the carborator was full of engine oil as was the bottom of the box. Four phone calls later and some time spent working on it and I will have a new air filter and inlet filter in 8-10 business days! This is disappointing since most of us buy something when we need it, not weeks in advance.
That said, I still highly recommend the compressor.
UPDATE: Well the parts came and the compressor was working, but not perfectly. It seemed to idle really high and use a lot of fuel. I took it to the DeWalt service center and they found the carborator had been damaged in shipping and replaced it. Finally it works like a dream. I am fortunate to have a service center <5 miles away otherwise this would have been a major issue and even more time. Consider buying this from someone who has them in stock, tested, and running right even if they are a little higher on price.
I still can't believe so many people buy a wheelbarrow compressor when these are nearly as powerful and one man portable... Go Figure.
Great Little Machine May 7, 2007 It's a little ridiculous, but I bought this comopressor solely to blow out a machine. I work by myself and did not want a bulky 150 pound wheeled compressor since they are difficult to get in and out of a truck by yourself, so, this was the logical choice.
The only problem I'm having with it currently, which I believe it may be due to bad gas, is my spark plug is accumulating a great deal of carbon build up. I've drained the gas, used a gas cleaner, new plugs, but I am still getting the carbon build up. Still trying to figure this one out.
All in all, I think it's a great compressor and the portability is great.
Dewalt gas powered compressor - great! August 22, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm using this gas powered compressor out in the field to power a T-Post driver when I'm building fence. It starts with one or two pulls and does everything Dewalt claims it will do. I can't really find any faults with it at all. It's well thought out and well designed. If you need a light weight, gas powered air compressor, you can't go wrong with this one.
Incredible cfm for weight! November 29, 2002 19 out of 21 found this review helpful
I bought this compressor for use in heavy commercial construction. It is more portable than the wheelbarrow compressors and can be put in the back of a pickup truck (unit is no feather weight though --- about 70 lbs!) This compressor has the best of all features--- reliable Honda engine, reliable Emglo compressor, overbuilt protective frame and quality gauges and quick connects make this an outstanding compressor. In commercial work, there are usually several trades on site (electrician, plumber, HVAC) and all of these guys are using the same power source. Most compressors capable of running two frame nailers draw enough power that it will constantly trip the the breaker on a temporary service pole unless run on 240 volts. With the gasoline compressor, all you have to do is make sure it has fuel and start it up! No extension cords and no more tripped breakers! We have used this compressor to run two paslode frame nailers shooting down 5/8" plywood nailed every 3" around the perimeter (120 mph rating) and this little guy could amazingly keep up! The compressor isn't louder than the DeWalt electric counterpart when running and the Honda engine means it will run for many years to come. Would not recommend this one for strictly running a finish nailer because of the overkill factor. Go buy a lighter, less expensive compressor for the finish guns. This machine is meant to turn out a much more substantial amount of air!The only downside to this compressor is the price and its weight. That is a lot of money to shell over for a machine that does nothing more than compress air! But, then again, would you really be reading this if all you needed was an average duty Lowe's variety compressor? And if you have a pickup, leave the unit in the back and let it run. After a full day of installing sheathing, it can be a chore to load this 70lb. compressor up. This is why I rate it 4 versus 5 stars due to the cost and weight. It seems like they could have trimmed a few more pounds off the compressor and a few more dollars! If you have any questions, e-mail me (Azul005@aol.com)
