| Customer Reviews: Mini drill press March 30, 2010 Mike Rapolas (Winter Haven, FL United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this item to help me with small drilling on a wooden model train. Shipping was pretty quick. Opened the box and removed the contents, what a mess.
The height adjustment handle was rusted shut. I had to put Liquid Wrench on it and it barely moved. The spindle was rusted along with the spring and the up/down cylinder. I had to open it up to place some lube on it and again it was very hard to move. When it did move, up and down movement was super rough, and you had to actually pull the arm down and push it up to get it to work. I never even turned it on. The chuck and the spindle did not match. The spindle had no threads and the chuck had threads, they could not mate.
I am very disappointed in this product. Had I known what I would get, I think I would have bought the Skil refurbished.
Bad deal

I needed a miniature drill press to drill the barrels on a 1/350 scale ship model. The Proxxon looks great but at $200+, it was out of the budget.
Then I searched Amazon and what did I find- a perfectly workable drill press for less than $100.
In short, it works as advertised. The slots in the base for a vise are kind of rough, no dovetail for a machinist wise. But the speed control works well, the plunging mechanism is smooth and wobble free. I'm glad I got it.

The delivery was smooth and timely. No complaint about that. However, the product itself was very crudely made. Luckily I am not a jewelry hobbyist, I don't need the precision and accuracy in my work. It worked out for me.
