2 out of 5 stars Call the Vise Squad   November 6, 2008
Does it work? Pretty well, unless you are wanting to bolt it down to the drill press it was made for. While you can twist it around to get a few bolts in, that is a compromise you shouldn't have to make. Delta screwed up royally on this! I don't own another (yet) to recommend, but if you have a choice - pass on this one.

4 out of 5 stars Nice little vise   March 13, 2008
I looked at unbranded vises and their castings were rough and action was awful. This Delta branded vises is probably also made overseas but with Delta QC it is a nice little vise. The quick release is weighted and lets you push the jaw and snug it up with a half twist. I added a couple small hardwood jaw blocks held with #6 screws from behind and it is good to go.

The other commenters giving bad reviews for the mounting holes not lining up don't make sense to me. I leave it free floating on the drill press since each different drilling operation needs the vise moved. I will just turn it at an angle to get a couple bolts through for heavy or repetative work.

This press is the worst. It does not fit the drill press it was designed for. The mounting holes do not line up.

Quick release is nice. BUT one of the two sides of the clamps is not vertical. If it was designed that way on purpose I don't know what's the advantage. Otherwise it's a manufacturing and QC problem. The unit is too heavy to be returned under warranty; most of the time it does not bother me.

3 out of 5 stars Odd Fit   July 25, 2007
I purchased Delta's 10-inch benchtop drill press last year and quickly learned that a drill press vise would be a must-have accessory. I first purchased a generic, "universal-fit" drill press vise, but it didn't fit the table properly. The mounting holes of the vise didn't align with the mounting holes on the drill press table. I returned the vise and decided to buy the appropriate Delta model vise for my press. Contacting Delta, this is the model they said would fit my drill press. When the vise arrived I was surprised to encounter the same problem. Once again, the mounting holes/slots didn't line up. I complained to Delta and their response was pretty lame. They said the vise would still work fine if it was mounted to the table at an angle. Furthermore, it would not be cost-efficient for them to make a vise which perfectly fit every model of drill press. Excuse me, but wouldn't it be a simple matter to machine the holes and slots on the drill press table to accomodate the slots on the vise?! I don't get Delta's flimsy explanation. Anyway, I'm sure this vise is of good quality and will do the job it's meant to do, but if you order it for your drill press, you may not be able to expect it to fit the way you think it will. When mounting the vise to the table on an angle as Delta suggests, it looks and "feels" odd. In addition, you can't achieve the same amount of adjustability with it as if it were mounted properly. Delta needs to re-think its engineering and tooling strategies so its products are more compatible with each other.
