Best panel door bit set March 15, 2008 To use this bit set properly, you need at least 2 1/2 HP router with variable speed. 3 or more HP is recommended but variable speed control is a must have.
For best result you have to adjust rpm: 17500rpm for rail and stile bits, 12000rpm for panel bit. Variable speed is much more important that HP. If you don't set the rpm as recommended in DVD, which is included, it's possible for you to get injured or mass up the work. Good router table is also a must.
Instruction DVD is very helpful to avoid any injuries and to get good result. I tried to used this bit without watching DVD, all work pieces were massed up and hurt my fingers. After watching DVD, everything goes flawlessly. I made a real nice panel door from the first try by following the instruction on DVD. You may need good clamp set for glueing rails and stiles.
Recommend this set to anyone who wants to make cabinet doors. Back cutter in the panel bit helps a lot to make the door in good shape. Spend few more bucks to get the bit with back cutter.
Couldn't be happier January 23, 2008 Freud really hit a home run with this set! The instructions are straight-forward and easy to follow. Fantastic results on the very first try. Now I want to replace all the flat-panel doors I've made over the years with great looking raised panel doors. I was actually disappointed to finish my first panels because it was so much fun building them!
Freud 97-210 3-Piece Door Bit Set September 23, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This cutter set, like all of the Freud bits I have used are really great. They hold their edge much better than most of the others. If you want a nice set for cabinet doors or just for making small panels this fits the bill nicely.
Exceeded Expectations June 22, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This was my first attempt at raised panel doors. Freud is certainly the best. I had to modify my cheap router table to fit my router. I can certainly say if you dont have a 3.25 or 3.5 HP router, you will need to make multiple passes, otherwise you will do what I did with my Hitachi 12VC....burn it up. Overall, this is an excellent product and I highly recommend it. It comes with excellent directions and the case it comes in is pretty nice too.
Best I've ever used. April 5, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
These bits are without a doubt the very best I've ever used. I've been doing woodworking for the last 40 years and never had anything cut this hard white oak so smoothly without chipping. I started a project with a set of raised panel doors and a economy set of bits, the bits fried ,tore up the lumber and were dangerous. When these bits came in, the job became much easier and less dangerous. I highly recommend the 2+2 cutters, the extra cutters realy help. These are quality bits, given good care they should last for years. The CD included gives a good overview on how to use them properly.
