Nice December 16, 2008 I haven't done the voltage and charge-discarge test to test it right (and am not the guy to do that,) but I sell batteries, solar electric products and such for a living, and the sound, action and ultimate performace so far is killer. If you get, let's say, B&D 'Firestorm' 18 volt batteries, the charger is DUMB and doesn't know when the battery is charged, when to lay off the battery and keep a voltage-sustaining charge to it (instead of cramming amps into a charged battery and overheating and killing your battery over time.) This one seems to do it right. The Makita stuff is really good, esp. this 'lithium' line of product. I have 6 different tools and they all are really, really good.
The Makita lithium hammer drill is 3 times faster than the B&D CORDED hammer drill I had. I did 200 block-penetrating, hurricane shutter drills with the B&D and then decided to get the Makita.
SO much easier, quiter and quicker with the Makita (and it's a cordless!.) I could have saved myself a lot of time and hearing using quality tools like Makita. Live and learn.

This model works much better than more expensive DC18SC, more quiet and much faster. Excellent model.
Great company w/great product February 26, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The brand speaks for itself. Reliable equipment that does what it is projected to do.
Ability to stand up February 15, 2008 We ship our installation tools all over the country. The cases are lined with 2" foam and we pad the tools with rags, but the chargers do not handle this well.
