Amazon.com Review One of the most daunting endeavors for any would-be do-it-yourselfer is dealing with the electrical--namely, electrical repairs, improvements, and wiring and rewiring projects. The reason for this is simple: mistakes can cause fires, major disasters and expense, and even death. But anyone can learn about safe and correct wiring in order to complete repairs or add new wiring to an aging and inadequate system. This is the book to show you how, from the basics of how electricity works and simple repairs and projects, all the way to complicated rewiring you might otherwise assume must be done by a professional. Included are the most up-to-date electrical code requirements; guides to evaluating, planning, and installing new electrical circuits; repair advice on switches, receptacles, and fixtures; and a detailed and well-illustrated lighting design section. A total of 288 pages of hundreds of illustrations and photographs and a comprehensive reference index make this an ideal book for the beginner, and an up-to-date refresher course for the professional. --Mark A. Hetts
Product Description
Earlier editions of The Complete Guide to Home Wiring sold more than 500,000 copies, and this expanded new book includes all the tried-and-true projects from earlier editions, updated to feature the latest fixtures. The book now meets the requirements of the 2005 National Electrical Code, including important changes for bathroom, kitchen and utility area wiring. No book is more complete when it comes to traditional wiring, but this is only the beginning. One of the biggest challenges facing homeowners today is hooking up the many electronic components they own-computers and printers, home theaters and surround-sound systems, CD and DVD and DVR units, to name a few. Getting electronics to operate together correctly has its own dedicated chapter on how to solve this common source of frustration. You'll learn everything you need to know about home media connections, including how to create a high-definition home theater with surround-sound. And the newest wave in home wiring is to lose the wires altogether. Technologies with names such as "Bluetooth" and "wi-fi" are creating homes with fewer and fewer wires and greater and greater freedom of movement and communication. The final chapter in this book covers this exciting technology, and will show you how to integrate computers, printers, telephones, audio and video equipment, and more-all with no wires attached.

Very Helpful December 23, 2008 This book was very helpful in giving you an overview on wiring your house and fixing simple electrical problems. I wouldn't say it tell you everything you will need to know but it certainly helps answer questions and steers you in the right direction. It also helps you with home networking and phone systems.
Could not have got along without it!!! December 17, 2008 I wired my entire house (new construction) using this book as my guideline. Much of the wiring was more than basic but I found what I needed in this book to get the job done. After the rough in inspection and when I got the power on I used this book to help sort out the little problems. All finished and absolutely could not have accomplished this task without this book. Explanations, instructions, diagrams, and pictures are absolutely invaluable. I fully recommend this book. And a very big thanks to the author. By the way, I am not an electrician and prior to tackling this project had very little experience in this field.
Well written and illustrated. November 10, 2008 I thoroughly enjoy this book. It is well illustrated and informative. I would recommend it to anyone. One thing it cannot do is tell about "local" restrictions and regulations but it does let you know that there may be local restrictions on some methodologies. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
This book was in good condition..... October 22, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great used book and it was in excellant condition. That is until the shipper rolled it into the smallest box possible, creating a permanent wave in the binding. I am all for recycling materials but would love to see the day when used book sellers ship books flat!!! Please eliminate the roll. Take the time to ship in rugged envelopes or find some boxes you can mail flat items in. Books never roll well.
awesome book October 3, 2008 More illustrations need to be added of examples of circuits and setups of connecting to breakers..
But excellent book. I think its THE BEST i have seen!
