The handheld is terrible - stopped working after 1 year June 30, 2009 Brenda Norton (Avon, OH USA) I owned this for about a year when it stopped working. I had to continually depress the power button to get it to operate. Dyson customer service acted like it was all my fault and I was not operating it correctly, even telling me that they had no idea what I was talking about the way I explained my problem. They had me take it all apart, wash and clean everything, put it back together and call back. Then they told me they still couldn't help me. Of course, the one item I can't find my receipt for is this - it was a gift. It's not like any one else makes a vacuum remotely like this. I love my Dyson upright but will never try another cordless. I hope I don't ever need customer service on the upright.
Great little vacuum June 28, 2009 Marcella Griego (Santa Fe, NM) This rechargeable Dyson is exactly what I have been looking for. All others I tried didn't have the suction power I wanted. This does
Rubbish June 25, 2009 Mark Murray (New York City) This is an incredibly useless product. It never worked for me and eventually would only operate for short bursts of a few seconds at a time. Over time Dyson replaced the 'battery charger' which did not help, they then replaced the battery which also did not help. Finally when the conclusion from customer service was that I needed a new 'body' the product was out of warranty and I was told that I would have to buy that from them. Since this cost more than a new Hoover handheld I politely declined. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! I will not buy any further Dyson products after this
Nice Vac June 23, 2009 J.C. (United States) Great suction, easy to clean, love the hang-on-the-wall ability. We have it stowed away in the laundry room on the wall, very easy and convenient out of sight.
Only thing I would say negative, like many other reviews here, is the battery-life is remarkably short. I understand it's cordless and handheld etc, but c'mon 5 minutes? I knew this when I purchased it, and I am ok with it, but I would have been ok with a battery twice as big for a 10 minute charge.
Otherwise this does exactly what it is intended to do and what it says it will do in the instructions; which is why I won't take away a star. It cleans up quick (dry) messes with excellent suction power and an easy to clean transparent canister, nice overall comfort in the hand, and quality build.
Buyer Beware June 6, 2009 James P. McDowall (Scottsdale, AZ United States) Dyson should be ashamed at releasing this hunk of junk. I also own a Dyson upright that has worked great. After owning the DC16 it appears I can no longer associate the brand name Dyson with quality.
The usage time per charge is ridiculously short 5 minutes or less, this is not even enough time to complete small jobs like your car.
The recharger is a pain in the rump to use as it requires you to align the device into tracks that slide over the bottom of the handle...backwards. A simple AC adapter would have been much better choice and saved users some frustration.
The suction is adequate though nowhere near what I get on my upright, and questionably stronger than other handhelds at a quarter of the price.
Lastly the price itself almost $150.00 is outrageously expensive compared to other handhelds, this would not be a problem if you were actually getting what you were paying for in this case you do not. That is unless your idea of fun is waiting for batteries to charge. Seriously save your money and get another brand, they average $30-50.00 and will probably work better or at least longer, this is one Dyson that you do not want!
