This is a great timer. Nice big display, nice buttons, love the fact that it counts up as well as down. The other great thing is that when the countdown timer goes off, it starts counting up so you can tell how long since the timer went off. My absolute favorite thing about this timer is that it takes a single AAA batter instead of the expensive watch batteries of old.

I've had mine since last Spring '08, and it does just what I need. It offers the same features as other timers that cost more. It counts up or down, (timer or stopwatch mode) up to 10 hours, and has digit buttons to set the time. I didn't understand the comment from another reviewer that "carrying the timer is not feasible" - I clip mine on my belt all the time. It can also stand on my desk or lay flat on a table. True, it does not have an on/off switch, but that is not needed - it just sits there displaying "0:00:00" when not in use. I haven't had to replace the batteries yet, so it does not appear to draw much power. To me, the display is comparable to other devices with an LCD display. I can read it and program it upside down when I'm wearing it on my belt. The only feature not there that I might wish for would be a way to control the volume of the beeper, which is pretty loud.

Outstanding timer. Buttons are large and easy to push. Alarm is not too loud or too soft. Very easy to set any time. I use it for sleep/snooze alarm or to wake up the kids in the morning as it is much faster/easier to set a wake up time than any alarm clock.

I got this as a kitchen timer, and it works just as I expected. You set time, you press start, it beeps when time is up, and you're done. The purpose is simple, and this product does it beautifully.

This is a good product, replaces a previous model sold under the label Galleon. The package is identical. Unfortunately, there are two differences in the product.
First, the Acurite timer does NOT have an on-off switch. There is an indent in back where the on-off switch is located on the Galleon timer, but is it filled in with plastic. So, carrying the timer is not feasible.
Second, the screen is of lower quality and can not be read unless one is almost directly in front of it and at the same level as the timer.
Not sure why Galleon stopped making timers. Not sure why the replacement is made more cheaply. Too bad.
