Product Description Don't let a huge CD collection be a hassle. The MiniDisc system lets you record, re-record and edit all your favorite CDs. This is a perfect chance to rediscover long forgotten hits. No more of those endless searches for that one special track - it's already there. The Sony MiniDisc deck puts the fidelity in Hi-Fi. With its high quality sound and easy operation, music never was this versatile. To understand how the MiniDisc system can maximize your musical enjoyment, you really have to try it on for size.
Amazon.com Product Description Using MiniDisc (MD) is utterly unlike recording your music on tape, where you can't resequence tracks, trim the start and the end points, fix mistakes, or take out radio commercials without rerecording the entire thing. Editing on tape? Forget it! Unlike tape, MD is nonlinear, and that opens up a whole new world of possibilities. For the first time, MD enables you to move, divide, and combine tracks. A-B Erase lets you delete outtakes and commercials. You can add titles to discs and tracks. And when you're done, you have your own mix.

Personal experience w/Sony MDS-JE520 May 8, 2000 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was anxious to get a mini disc recorder and this specific model. I had seen ads, seen the product in use at the public radio station in Louisville, KY where I do a show and decided that's for me. I am throughly pleased with mine. It offers so many options. I have at times put cuts from LPs and cassette tapes on a disc to use on the show. Quick location, quick cueing and much better reproduction of sound is a distinct advantage, especially in a DJ role. Aside from the radio use, I have copied some very old tapes I wish to preserve. Tapes that can not be replaced. Interviews gathered over the years with Chet Atkins, Bill Monroe and others. Old programs to keep. I am sure the disc will out last the cassette tapes. The great and useful features of naming the disc, naming each individual cut, single track or complete disc instant erasure, recording timeing (space to go or space used) moving tracts and a host of other useful goodies. I have found mine to be a great asset from both a personal and professional standpoint. I highly recommend this unit.
The perfect way to record. April 9, 2000 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The mini disk format is the best way to record. The ability to organize the disk the way you want after you finish recording is a big plus. Also, you can erase the disk at a later date if you decide you don't want what is on it. There is a protection device on the disk so that you don't accidently erase the disk. Last, but not least, is the quality sound the mini disk format gives you. Cassettes will sound so inferior once you start using the mini disk player. Sony is the best one out there. I have read a number of specs concerning the other brands, and this one rates very high. Keep a look out for this one and you will be very satisfied once you purchase it.
Good Value for the Price March 10, 2000 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I find this unit easy to use and is an excellent compliment to my home audio equipment. Digital inputs and output enable easy exchange with my CD players. This unit seems to work fine with the newer 80 minute minidiscs based on my early trials. With the digital output on this unit, it is easy to make a digital CDR copy of your minidisc of a live recording you have made, so long as you also have a digital optical input on your CD recorder. I found the jog dial easy to use after a little practice. I dislike the fact that line sync recording function from a digital source can only be activated using the remote. Would prefer this function to also be available on the main unit since I use it frequently. This is a small complaint for an otherwise very nice unit.
A Great Component February 26, 2000 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This MD player is made by SONY, the orginator of the MD. Although I use an AIWA for MD on the road this is a great MD component, for the money. Face it. You don't want to spend $400+ for a MD Player/Recorder for just some extra belles and whistles. This is the best choice if you're not a Audio Pro.
