Decent spreader September 24, 2008 Didn't quite do what I wanted, which was to spread compost around my backyard. I don't think it is the products fault though as it is more suited to smaller, more fine particles like fertilizer and grass seed. I haven't had a chance to use it for those applications yet.

When one hears the name Scotts, I automatically think "Quality". After buying the Scotts Accugreen 1000 Drop Spreader my thinking has changed. When the spreader is fully loaded with fertilizer, the wheel that turns the feeder mechanism in the hopper slides or skips on the lawn (rubber on the wheels probably would help) plus the handle bends when pushing the spreader (a T-Handle with channel iron would be sturdier). I had a drop spreader from another brand that lasted 22 years with no problems. This Scott spreader just appears to use cheap materials. Unfortunately, I bought this on-line and couldn't check out the product in person and relied on the "Name Brand". You'll be better off going to Wal Mart and checking out the off brand name spreaders there. Oh well, live and learn.

This is a dandy little spreader that puts the fertilizer right where you want it. I also have a broadcast spreader and it slings fertilizer out into the street or driveway and walks. You especially don't want it slung into flower beds when you are using weed and feed.
Drop spreader May 27, 2008 This spreader is well designed and easy to assemble; works well. Unfortunately, it shares a problem with all drop spreaders: It is very difficult (almost impossible) to end up with a lawn without stripes.
Great Little Spreader May 25, 2008 I've pretty much crossed over into the little-old-lady demographic but was still able to assemble this spreader on my own.
Works great and is very easy to push--lightweight and large wheels. I like the accuracy of a drop-spreader better than a broadcast because I only have a narrow lawn in my parking strip. I'll use this for spreading snow-melt in the winter as well.
