4 out of 5 stars Very good   November 9, 2008
Easy to set up. Did not work consistantly wireless but was easy to hard wire. Now works fine. It seems to be pretty accurate. [..] it uploads fine.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible customer service and not made for the outdoors   November 6, 2008
La Crosse has a terrible attitude toward it's customers, so I recommend looking for another company. My weather station worked well enough initially, though the set up is not great for outdoor mounting. Then, the wires connecting the wind vane to the transmitter were chewed by a pack rat. No problem, I thought, I'll just call and pay for a new wire from La Crosse. Unfortunately, La Crosse does not help with problems and says you are on your own if it is not a warranty issue. Further, the system is designed so that the wire cannot be replaced, which seems really dumb, since it will obviously be exposed to birds and other creatures in the outdoors. And it is even dumber since the other end of the cord has a simple plug. When the customer service people said they were not interested in helping, I wrote to the company president, but I just got the same customer service reply. I recommend doing business with a company that cares about it's customers and I plan to avoid this outfit.

3 out of 5 stars pretty good weather station   November 3, 2008
I've used the LaCrosse 2317 for about a month. It is easy to set up and trnsmits data well both wired and wirelessly. The only significant problem is that wind gusts are not recorded accurately. About once an hour it records a gust of 57 mph when the wind has not exceeded 5 or 6 mph. Sometimes it jumps to 85 mph. It still records accurate gusts but the chart is thrown way off so it isn't as fun to use and you will never know what the actual strongest gust was. The included software is functional but a little primitive.

4 out of 5 stars Low-cost full featured weather station   October 31, 2008

I had a Oregon Scientific WX918 wired weather station for 5 years that finally needed replacing after lightning took out much of it. I decided on a wireless one, and looked at several. I also wanted one that would work with my Linux computer and web server, and finally decided on the La Crosse WS-2317, much because it was only $[...] at the time and I had located a very nice (and free!) web based software package, wview. I have had no problems with the wireless, running length-wise thru several walls about 50 feet or more away.

The wview software worked fine with it. The display unit is nice, though I wish I could view inside and outside temperatures simultaneously. But thats ok, I use the web screen of wview mostly anyway.

I would have no problem recommending this unit for a low cost weather station.
