Villeroy & Boch's Cottage collection brings a bit of country style to a kitchen or dining room in either a rural or suburban setting, evoking memories of berry picking, baking pies, and simpler times. The homey pattern on this platter features a muted white background with bunches of blueberries, blackberries, cherries, currants, and leaves along the perimeter, plus a few crawling ladybugs on the leaves. A primitively painted blue stripe lines the scalloped edge of the plate for a more authentic vintage look. This 14-inch oval platter is perfectly shaped to serve asparagus in vinaigrette, a single roast chicken, or about four grilled shrimp skewers. Made of fine china, the platter has a slightly translucent appearance but offers the weight and strength of earthenware. It is durable enough to be used in the microwave and can be safely cleaned in the dishwasher. This platter coordinates with other pieces in the Cottage collection, including the Cottage Blue and Cottage Red collections with their quaint, New-England-farmhouse-style stenciled borders.
