An interactive recipe book with 10 additional recipes is marked with fill lines for use with the carafe. To use simply add ingredients, activate the battery powered Salad Chef blender in the carafe and watch the ingredients become rich, creamy perfectly emulsified dressings in seconds.
Amazon.com Review Homemade salad dressings never seem to mix quickly (must be something about oil and vinegar mingling in the same bowl), which is why BonJour released the Salad Chef, a battery-powered dressing blender. The Salad Chef features an unbreakable plastic carafe with several dressing recipes printed on the side. Once you add the dressing ingredients, merely push the button on the top of the blender and wait. Within seconds, the Salad Chef produces perfectly merged dressings with just the right balance of flavors. The unit is designed to fit snugly in your hand, and with its white top, chrome halo, and clear carafe, it even looks like a cool gadget. The Salad Chef comes with a recipe book with 10 additional dressing ideas. --Rivers Janssen

Love it for what it can do! October 10, 2008 This product works great for it's purpose, mixing. I use a hand held chopper and then mix with this. The best part of this product is the recipe book, specifically, the ceasar and greek dressing recipes. I have had numerous request because they are the best.
Great product! February 19, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I use this quite often. It's wonderful for making salad dressings, but I found I use it for other things as well. (You can mix shakes, milk with chocolate syrup, etc.) I would give it 5 stars but it doesn't quite mix at the bottom sometimes. The motor is pretty powerful, and I still haven't changed the batteries yet. I personally don't care for the recipes that came with it (didn't even try them actually; a couple sound good), but make recipes from online or even use ready made packets and add the oil or mayo, milk, etc. Sometimes the lid doesn't want to stay on (the dressing like pops it up), but if you don't fill it to the top you shouldn't have that problem. I just let it go up some ha ha, and it still keeps okay. It's easy to use and cleans well, you can even put most of it (not the top battery part) in the dishwasher! The part you can't, you simply wipe off if it gets dirty (not very often unless you're a messy cook!).
Broke after 3 days! November 10, 2007 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
I give it 2 stars because it does mix beautifully but I stop there because the dang thing broke from falling off the first shelf in my refrigerator. I bought it on Wednesday and it's now Saturday! Also, it is NOT air tight because the lid flew right off as well. There is now a big gigantic hole in the middle of the mixer. What the heck! Piece of junk, as far as longevity goes.
This thing really works February 20, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I like to mix up my own dressings, but it's messy to have to shake the container before every use. This product solves the problem.
Tips: - I hold the vessel with one hand and the device with the other, using my thumb to press the button on top. - It sometimes does a more thorough job when the blades are just a little below the surface and a bit off center. Maybe it's incorporating more air. But keep the blades away from the sides and far from the opening. - If the recipe includes more water than oil, a thickening agent may be needed to combat separation.
Here's my reduced-fat sodium-free recipe (makes one cup):
- 1/4 cup olive oil - 1/4 cup red wine vinegar - 1/2 cup water - 2 tsp Spike salt-free seasoning - 1/4 tsp Xanthan gum
After emulsifying, the mixture turns light green.
Salads bored my family to death before Salad Chef November 15, 2000 37 out of 39 found this review helpful
Like most people, I have always made the same salad dressings over and over. Part of my problem was that no matter how great the salad dressing looked, the moment i put it on the salad, the vinegar went one way and the oil the other way.Salad Chef completely emulsifies oil and vinegar and for as long as I have kept the dressing in my frige, it has never seperated. In addition it comes with 4 salad recipes on the jar but the greatest thing is that it has a recipe booklet that comes with it that has another 10-12 recipes. To make the recipes you just hold it up to the jar and follow the lines. All cookbooks should be like this. I love it and use it all the time. Also its battery operated so you can make your dressing in your kitchen, dining room or outside in the garden.
