Amazon.com Review A delight for any cook with a yen for quality and a taste for contemporary style, this knife-and-block set equips a kitchen with all basic knives. Distinguished by 18/10 stainless-steel, satin-finish handles, Twin Select knives embody Henckels's world-renowned craftsmanship. Henckels uses a high-tech welding process to form the knives in its first-rate cutlery lines. This process combines three types of high-carbon stainless steel into a single piece so that each part of a knife--blade, bolster, and tang--performs optimally. Shaped like gentle waves to fit the hand snugly, the ergonomically designed handles contain full rat-tail tangs and are fully watertight with no gaps. The set consists of an 8-inch chef's knife, an 8-inch serrated bread knife, an 8-inch carving knife, a 4-inch paring knife, a 6-inch utility knife, a 10-inch sharpening steel, and a heavy wood storage block with a black-granite finish that handsomely sets off the stainless-steel knives. The block holds all five knives and the steel, and has four more knife slots as well as a slot for kitchen shears. Though the knives are dishwasher-safe, they should be hand washed to protect edges. The entire set carries a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack From the Manufacturer | The Twin Select range is a master blend of function and design. These forged knives feature ergonomic 18/10 stainless-steel handles combined with blades made from J.A. Henckels's exclusive high-carbon, no-stain steel formula. The result is a beautiful, award-winning knife that exudes elegance and is a pleasure to use. The Twin Select line contains knives for all tasks, including the following open stock knife types: parer, bread, sandwich, carving, chef's, santoku, and others. Twin Select knives are also available in a range of block sets and gift sets, to be sure that your cutlery needs are covered. | | A Higher Standard in Knife Construction Twin Select knives are precision forged from a single piece of exclusive-formula, high-carbon, no-stain steel under the all-new Sigmaforge standard. As a result, these knives have improved quality consistency, lasting sharpness, and perfect geometry. Sigmaforge one-piece construction also provides high precision and improved stability of the blade and steel structure, thus improving cutting-edge retention for lasting sharpness. In addition, Twin Select knives use J.A. Henckels's Friodur ice hardening for corrosion resistance, a process that also contributes to cutting-edge retention. New Ergonomic Handle Technology | The Twin Select series features comfortable, ergonomic stainless-steel handles that accommodate each hand size while improving function, convenience, and safety. These patented handles are hygienic, colorfast, and break-proof (USA Patent #5791055). The quality of Twin Select can be recognized by the Zwilling J.A. Henckels logo featured on the end of the handle. | | Features: - Sigmaforge one-piece, precision-forged construction: Provides perfect geometry, high precision, and improved stability of the blade and steel structure, thus improving cutting-edge retention for lasting sharpness.

The best balanced knives around February 8, 2004 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
These knives feel so natural in your hand that you might as well be Wolverine from the X-men (OK, they feel supernatural). Each of the knives is very sharp, holds an edge brilliantly, and is a pleasure to hold in your hand. The brushed stainless finish of the handles is really handsome and would fit in any kitchen. The knives are a real pleasure to use.
Sharp knife at first but... June 13, 2003 1 out of 12 found this review helpful
I bought this set about 6 months ago and it was sharp and well balanced. Recently I notice that the blade was chipping off and started to get dull, I don't know if this is a flaw or time to get it resharpened. I took very good care of it and never put it in the dishwasher. Overall its a good knife that probably needs sharping done on it every 6 months.

I orginally purchased the Twin Star Plus but it was a real disappointment. Would not stay sharp and kept returning them-finally had enough and went for the Twin Select. Best choice-the best knifes we have ever owned! Worth every penney we spent! They do an incredible job and feel perfect in your hand. The Henckel Company truly stands behind their product and only want their cutomers to be happy. It's such a pleasure to have good knifes that do a beautiful job - you will never be disappointed with this choice. From a very satisfied customer !!
Perfect for people who want too many knives August 16, 2001 35 out of 65 found this review helpful
Five stars for quality- and one for the concept. One of the centerpieces of any real show-off kicthen is the knife block stuffed with gleaming stainless German knives, one for every conceivable purpose. And they all shine like the day they were purchased, because few, if any, of them ever get used. How many knives do you really need? For most cooks it's one. Maybe two. A good chef's knife can do everything from slicing a roast to making radish flowers and everything in between. Add an inexpensive serrated knife for bread and tough-skinned vegetables, and you're on an equal footing with any professional chef. If you clean your own fish (which is unlikely, unless you also catch them), you need a filleting knife. And that's it. So really, most of us need two knives. This set gives us five, plus a block and a sharpening steel. But for a fifth the cost, you cna buy a really nice chef's knife- with a 10" blade, rather than the 8" found in this set- as well as a serrated knife and a steel, and still have enough left over for a copy of How To Cook Everything and enough groceries to make a nice dinner.
henckels brand with Global design. August 11, 2001 14 out of 17 found this review helpful
Henckels have done a great job with this. The knife storage block along with the overall design is similar to the well known japanese knife brand named Global. what I like about this is that it shows that Henckels have caught on to customers needs and wants. It has developed a very modern design and incorporated it into their superbe quality knives to give you the ultimate in design and craftsmanship. For the price you get Global looks with Henckel quality and reputation what more can you ask for?
