Product Description
The one thing that probably discourages more people from purchasing and using cast iron is maintenance. Like carbon steel woks, cast iron cooking pieces require "seasoning." To many this is a mysterious or overly time-consuming process. Even if you treasure fond memories of eggs and pancakes cooked in grandmother's ancient, blackened skillet, you might have no idea how to turn your new pan into such a treasure. Fortunately Lodge has come out with the new Logic line, which has been evenly coated on all surfaces with an electrostatic spray of vegetable oil. Next the cookware is put into an extremely high temperature industrial oven which bakes the coating into the surface. Not only will you be spared the time and effort of seasoning, but also the new piece you buy will look and perform better than if you had seasoned it at home. Just like that heirloom pan you will find that even pineapple upside down cake doesn't stick to this surface. The ribbed bottom of this pan allows grease to puddle away from what you're cooking, all the while making those desirable stripes across fish, beast, or fowl.

5 out of 5 stars Enjoyed Using Grill Pan   September 7, 2010
Winston Knighton
I used it this past Labor Day weekend and I am here to say that I was quite pleased! It is just like using an outdoor grill except it works well indoors. It is useful because the meat is cooked much faster than an outdoor grill and it is easy to clean and I have to say it was a great investment if one does not want to deal with grilling outdoors.

5 out of 5 stars recommended by my son   August 18, 2010
pat in fla
My youngest son has this pan and said it gave him the best steak he had ever had. He was right! (Hard for a mom to admit.) I use mine several times a week, not just with steak. It is great. It is my first castiron pan so I was concerned about not "washing" it. I just followed the directions that came with the pan and it's working fine. I also use spray vegetable oil and there isn't a lot of residual oil left on it. Great purchase at a great price. Came very quickly.

4 out of 5 stars Great pan   August 14, 2010

We got this because my spouse loves to BBQ, but our complex prohibits patio BBQ's and the communal grill is a bit of a hike from our door. I was doubly excited because it was the first piece of cast iron I have ever owned.

This pan is heavy duty, beautiful, and produced the BEST steak my husband has ever served (and he's a darn handy steak griller). He used to swear by his George Foreman for burgers, but now he's using the grill pan instead. Juicy good! Several of the reviews here mention a smoke problem, but we don't have that issue. As soon as we fire up the pan, we just turn on our overhead hood to high and any smoke vents right out.

With all the ridges cleanup can be a bit of a pain even with a stiff brush, BUT I just saw the suggestion about boiling some water in the pan first and I think that will solve the problem. The other reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because the pan is really heavy. It takes both my hands and a potholder to lift this baby into the sink (admittedly, I have occasional typing-related wrist problems). It's not a shortcoming of the brand, of course, but rather the fact that this is sturdy cast iron that will last FOREVER, so it's a reasonable trade off. I wish we'd have gotten the longer two-burner grill for when we have company, but it wasn't available at the time. This one is just roomy enough for the three of us (one child).

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   August 5, 2010

Great way to get that 'grilled' flavor when it's raining outside or you're just too busy to fire up the grill.

4 out of 5 stars Great product at a great price.   July 26, 2010

I bought this for my boyfriend so he could cook steaks indoors. He absolutely loves it (I'm a vegetarian) and says it cooks a great steak. Just preheat your oven at 450 for about 20 minutes and then throw the steak on for 3min each side (depending how rare you like it). Salt and pepper are all the seasonings you need.
