Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
CusinArt DGB-500BK Grind and Brew Coffee Maker - The fundamental concept behind Cuisinart's Grind and Brew system is preservation of flavor. When coffee beans are freshly ground, the natural oils that result contribute to the natural, complex flavor. As ground coffee sits, these oils dissipate and their unique properties fade. By integrating a grinder into the coffee maker, you're assured of getting the optimal flavor from the coffee bean. Re-useable Gold-tone filter Charcoal filter helps filter impurities from water Grind off (turns off the grinder in case you have coffee) Brew Pause Comfort-grip handle Taste Keeper lid keeps your coffee fresher, longer Self-clean setting with a time-to-clean monitor Power Cord Storage Color - BLACK

Amazon.com Review
When the aroma of freshly brewed coffee--from freshly ground beans--wafts into your bedroom in the morning, you won't need your alarm clock. Preset this coffeemaker for your desired wake-up time, add coffee beans to the grinder, and in the morning the beans are ground to a medium grind and hot coffee awaits in the glass 12-cup carafe. You can also program the machine to start brewing at the end of a dinner party to avoid having to get up from the table, or to have hot coffee waiting after a brisk winter walk. When making fewer than five cups of coffee, use the 1-to-4-cups setting to improve extraction and heat; coffeemakers without this setting often lack the time to heat up properly, and coffee comes out cooler. A disposable charcoal filter removes chlorine and odors from tap water, improving coffee flavor, and should be changed every few months. Other features include a gold-tone commercial-style filter (or use No. 4 basket-style paper filters); capacity to use preground coffee instead of beans; 30-second Brew Pause, which allows a cup be poured before brewing is complete; and an audible tone to indicate the pot is ready. The grinder removes for easy cleaning, and all removable parts can be washed safely in the upper rack of a dishwasher. The Cuisinart Grind and Brew measures 15 by 8 by 7-1/2 inches, and comes with a three-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

5 out of 5 stars I think this is the best....   November 10, 2008
The Cuisinart Grind and Brew....Contrary, to the lame reviews that the 1 and 2 star people have given to this coffee maker, I have found this maker to brew the best and Hottest cup of coffee I have ever had out of a home coffee maker. Yes, great taste, that we couldn't get out of our past Mr. Coffee's. Yes, you have to clean it and there are a few hidden spots that you have to find at first. BIG friggin deal!! After cleaning it a couple times, it takes 2 minutes max to get the job done and ready for the next cup of coffee. There has never been an issue with cleaning the coffee filter area as others seem to have had a problem with. The thing just works GREAT!! We're using it in a work environment. This means that it's used at least 3 or 4 times a day. While there are people at my office that look at it and look like confused Scooby Doo's, these are the same as the 1 or 2 star people....They just give up if they have to do anything out of the ordinary in life.

So, don't be afraid to buy this great Cuisinart Coffee Maker! You won't be disappointed...It's so consistent from use to use as well. GO FOR IT!

2 out of 5 stars Coffee maker   September 13, 2008
I have this coffee maker. It makes mediocre coffee at best and doesn't keep it hot. I would not purchase it again.

2 out of 5 stars Looks good on paper, not in real life. Don't mix grinding and brewing in one machine, god didn't intend it!   July 29, 2008
I've had this model for about 4 years now and stopped using it after a few months due to the weak coffee and the mess you have to clean up everytime. I moved to Germany for a year after this and packed it away. Coffee in europe will make you hate the weak result from this model even more!

After returning, I decided to give it a try again and this time have come to a better way to use this maker with better results. I no longer use the integrated grinder, I find it grinds to course and that mixed with the reusable filter allows to fast of a brew leading to weak coffee. So now I grind with my old grinder, get a nice fine grind, then use a good ol' fashioned paper filter. I get much better results, albeit not great still. So, now its just a regular coffee maker again that was overpaid for.

Now I have to deal with the problem about the constant burned coffee I get due to the hotplate running to hot I guess. I was thinking of getting a stainless carafe for it, but it costs $50 on amazon - I don't even know if this is compatible. So, now its time to get a Mr. Coffee with stainless thermal carafe and for $50. I'm sure it will make good coffee too.

Sorry Cuisinart - stick to food processors and ice cream makers - not much to screw up there.

5 out of 5 stars Cuisinart Grind and Brew is an excellent way to start your day   July 24, 2008
Excellent coffeemaker - can't find a thing wrong with it. Would recommend this to anyone. Price is right also. Nothing like a freshly ground cup of coffee each morning.

4 out of 5 stars I like it   July 20, 2008
I saw some pretty bad reviews for this product after I bought it but I like it. Yes, you need to clean the grinder, the filter container and the pot but you would need to clean that on any grinding coffee pot anyway. Yes, the grinder is loud, but aren't all grinders. There isn't a way to control the consistancy of the grounds but they have always been very fine and produced good coffee.
If anything its a bit too fine. I want to buy a permanent filter for it but I am worried the grounds may go through it. Has anyone come across this problem?
