Product Description
The Toddy Maker is a simple device that uses cold water and a carefully designed filter system to produce an exceptionally pure coffee concentrate from ground coffee. The advantages of coffee brewed with the Toddy Maker make it a popular choice among both individuals and the food service industry. Cold water brewing extracts the desirable flavor elements, but eliminates many of the undesirable oils and acids found in hot brewed coffee that are not soluble at low temperatures. Cold brewed coffee tastes smoother and is easier on the stomach. Toddy coffee has been recommended by doctors to their patients who are sensitive to the acid in hot brewed coffee. The original Toddy Maker consists of a plastic brewing container with a plug and filter at the bottom. One pound of regular grind coffee and nine cups of cold water are added and allowed to steep for eight to twelve hours. The plug is then removed and the resulting concentrate is allowed to drain through the filter into a glass carafe which is also provided. The grounds are then disposed of (they make good compost) and the filter rinsed thoroughly. The concentrate must be refrigerated. To make a cup of hot coffee simply mix one part concentrate with three parts water and heat in the microwave. To make iced coffee mix one part concentrate with three parts water and serve over ice. The concentrate is good for about three weeks in the refrigerator, and can be frozen for several months

5 out of 5 stars Great product   September 6, 2008
It is a great product for many reasons. This is a very different way to make coffee. You probably would see objection by waiting for 12 hours to make it, but it is very smart, you don't waste any energy at all to make it, you just need time. There is no waste of coffee since you use the concentrate in the wished porportion and there is no remains, besides you can share with your friends letting them choose the proportion they want and the way they want it, because you can fix it either Hot or Cold
It is wonderful product and is a completely Greenwise product.

5 out of 5 stars toddy coffee maker   September 5, 2008
Found out about this coffee system from friends. Makes great coffee! My husband who has been making espresso with a traditional machine fro years has started using my Toddy coffee instead of making his with the machine.

4 out of 5 stars Love it. Just a bit messy and Laborious   September 3, 2008
My good friend turned me on to the cold brew process and I must say that I couldn't be happier with it. The process can be a bit messy and can be more than most people prefer to deal with. But the result is a huge vat of very potent coffee extract that tastes suprisingly smooth and produces 0 stomach ache/issues.
I prefer to add some vanilla soy to each cup and it's delicious and quick. I bring a Nalgene bottle full of the concentrate to work and keep it in the fridge, making cups for myself throughout the day. I save A Lot of money this way as before I would be spending roughly 2 dollars every day on one medium cup of (usually, crappy) cofee.
I've been using Pete's house blend for my toddy brewing. It's their cheepest and it seems to make good results. My friend recommended starbucks pre ground sumatra blend, allthough I havn't tried it yet.

3 out of 5 stars Toddy Maker   August 31, 2008
Other than the convenience of having a batch of coffee virtually made and living in the refrigerator, I would rather use my drip maker. I think the flavor is better. However this method is quick for those "Grab and go" times.

5 out of 5 stars Toddy Soaker Coffee is the best   August 31, 2008
Coffee soaked in the Toddy Soaker is the best coffee. Course Ground beans are soaked in cold water over night, and filter next morning. Keep the Coffee Concentrate in the fridge. By soaking the beans in COLD water, the Tanic acid and oils are not cooked out of the beans. You will see some oil residue on the inside of the soaker when you wash. The Tanic Acid and oils are what upset your stomach when you drink regular coffee. These are what give coffee the bitter taste. Remember, The Indians use to TAN there deer hides with Tanic Acid, it can't be good for your stomach.
By using the Toddy Soaker, you can buy the GOOD coffee beans, and use them up completely. You never have to throw away that left over perc'ed coffee in the pot. I soak the beans three times. 1st soak is the best, 2nd soak is for the second cup in the morning, third soak if for my wife who adds creamer and doesn't care about good tasting coffee. Good luck, and enjoy.
