Black Decker 1 cup cafe December 1, 2008 This is a perfect way for people to enjoy individual cups of coffee without making a whole pot to get wasted. The pods are more expensive than just regular coffee, but we save money by none being wasted. We get up at different times, and it is so easy to just place your single pod and push the size cup you want and you have coffee in a jiffy. I love it!!
Liked first one so much, I'm buying another November 25, 2008 My husband drinks just one cup of coffee at home on weekdays, so 2&1/2 years ago, I bought the first generation Home Cafe, which as most boards have pointed out by now, had some real issues. I took it back to the store, and looked at others, but either the coffee for that brand machine was hard to find, or the spout was too low for a regualr coffee mug (Senseo).
Then the second generation came out with much better reviews so I gave it another try. I really liked it! It worked great, cleanup was easy, hubby said the coffee was fine, and it was better than making a pot just for one cup of coffee. We still kept the regular brewer for weekends and company, but the Home Cafe was used probably used 2-3 times a day, 5 days a week for 2 years.
And then the heating element died. No hot water. I don't know what the life expectancy of unit was supposed to be, but since I only paid $40, and now I can buy it for $30, I'm satisfied with it's performance, and am now replacing it with an identical model.
NOTE: Used Folger's Pods primarily, tried another brand, but coffee came out weak (Do not know if the pod was inferior or did not fit well). Hubby drank Dark Roast in the AM, and Decaf in the PM, and I liked the Cappacino ones. Have no experience with the other flavors.
By the way, if you aren't familiar with the models, the first generation had the lever on the side you pulled to lock the unit, the second one has a latch in the front that you just push to close.
Hope this helps someone!
Black & Decker GT300 Pod Coffeemaker October 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am very disappointed in this product. I have the original version of this product which I used everyday for two years; and after it broke, ordered this one as the original version was no longer available. This was supposed to be an improved version; maybe the machine itself was improved, but the resulting coffee product was not. The resulting coffee tasted and smelled like plastic, no hint of coffee flavor at all. It did not even smell like coffee as it was brewing. I tried different pods, even tried using two pods at once, same plastic tasting result every time. I gave the product two weeks, hoping the plastic taste and smell would go away, no improvement. I am now stuck with a useless machine as the shippers policy is not to take back opened and used returns. I will write Black and Decker about my disappointment in their product.
Black and Decker gt300 October 30, 2008 It doesn't work correctly. THere is something messed up in the electronics. Lots of lights flash and the unit locks up.
Coffee Maker October 15, 2008 The Black and Decker Home Cafe makes a fine cup of coffee quickly; no fuss, no muss
