Great coffeemaker October 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a kid in the 70s and 80s, my parents had one of these. Not being a coffee drinker, I always thought it was embarrassingly low tech. Now that I'm an adult (though still not a big coffee drinker), I wanted something inexpensive that wouldn't take up a lot of counter space, would be easy to care for and would make decent coffee. After looking at various options, I finally settled on this one, and I'm glad I did. Not only does it work perfectly well, as advertised, it also makes great-tasting coffee (which is more than I can say about the little stovetop percolator I tried before investing in this one). It's also easy to store in my cabinet when not in use.
Two additional notes: The coffee maker calls for size 6 filters, and those are great to have when you're making a full pot. But if you're just making coffee for 2-3 people, I've found size 4 filters work fine, and they're cheaper and easier to come by. I've also found that the coffee filter cone will also work with an insulated carafe I bought separately.
Stunningly simple! Fantastic Coffee!! September 8, 2008 I've been using Melitta coffee makers for about 20 years and I'm always impressed with the quality of the coffee they make. Obviously, a good coffee maker won't turn cheap coffee into a gourmet brew, but it will let you get the best from your beans.
This is about as simple as it gets. You put in a paper filter, add ground coffee (make sure you use a fine grind) and the proper temperature water and in a few minutes you'll have a pot of very smooth coffee.
Melitta Pots are great August 13, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Have been using these pots for 30 years. My husband brings me coffee every morning from one of these pots.
Simply the best coffee ever August 1, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After my last coffee maker died (the fourth or fifth one in just eight years), I was sick of the electric coffee pot. This very simple set-up was inexpensive and doesn't have any electrical parts to break.
The best thing, though, is that this makes the best coffee ever. Seriously. Here's the method: I grind my beans right before brewing. I pour boiling water over the grounds, just enough to soak them. Then I pour again to fill the filter with water. And I stir with a spoon. Pour and stir, pour and stir, until all the water has gone through. Simple, easy, and amazingly good coffee. It's way better than anything I got from my overpriced electrical machines.
