Classic Dutch Oven June 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We have lots of cast and this is one of my favorites. I have to say that when I purchased this, I really wanted the one with just the loop handles but this one was cheaper at the time. Boy, am I glad that I got the one with the wire handle. It is one of my favorite features. Cast can be really heavy, especially when full with a pot of food and this handle is so nice just to grab out of the oven. 5 quart is a really good size for a family and Lodge quality is always top notch.
A dutch oven is a must for any kitchen and cast will last a lifetime. It is also the most healthy way to cook.
I can't believe I didn't buy this sooner June 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Lodge dutch oven is a fantastic pan, I really cannot believe I have been cooking for 15 years without one. The lid fits perfectly, providing a leak-free covering for long-simmering stews. I was a bit skeptical about the pre-seasoning, but it was perfectly done, the pan was ready for use right out of the box, I just wiped it a bit in case there was any dust.
Because of its solid construction, it is a very heavy pan. I am glad that I did not buy the 7-quart, as it would have been too unwieldy once filled with food.
I was considering an enameled dutch oven by Le Creuset, but cannot see spending three times as much as the Lodge cast iron oven. Care must be taken to make sure that the pan is perfectly dry when put away to avoid rust, but such is the nature of all cast iron cookware, and is not specific to this item.
Lodge Logic Cast Iron Dutch Oven June 2, 2008 We had been having a cool spell in sunny, Southern California and home cooked Beef Stew with a side of Cornbread sounded like a good hearty meal for our cool nights. I purchased this Dutch Oven with that in mind. The Dutch Oven cooked our meal like a dream and cleanup was a snap no stuck on food. The handle on the dutch oven made it nice and convenient when we moved it to our table from the stove. I recommend this product highly. We give it a 10!
Exactly as described... April 6, 2008 I love this product. Recommend using foil inside if you are making something really sticky like cherry cobbler. We used it on our recent 1.5 week campout. Planning to use it at home in the oven, too.
Best pot I own March 10, 2008 I bought this Dutch oven because I have a cookbook that has recipes needing a Dutch oven to prepare them. Reviews were high, so I went ahead and purchased it. Well, I am VERY happy with it. I love the handle, because it makes it easy for me to carry the pot from the refrigerator downstairs to my kitchen upstairs ( I have two refrigerators).
The pot is heavy, but easy to handle when washing. I am pettite, and I'm still able to hand wash the pot without difficulties. If YOU are not willing to wash dishes by hand, DO NOT buy this Dutch oven.
Food quality: great and fast cooking.
I reccomend this Dutch oven.
