Not a favorite... limited use, hard to clean December 1, 2008 First off let me say I really like Le Cruset pans, I have several. This is my least favorite pan. There are three main reasons why I dislike this pan, it is difficult to clean, limited applications, and the whole pan gets hot. The quality is solid, but the difficulty of using this pan through cleaning makes it a difficult pan.
I have had this pan for about three years. It is used the least of my Le Cruset pan. I believe the major flaw with this pan is that it is so difficult to season. I am not new to cast iron pans, and I have several that I enjoy, but this one with the grooves has proved difficult to season evenly, so whatever I have used this pan for has often stuck to the pan, leaving you with the difficult task of trying to clean a cast iron pan and not to wash away the seasoning.
This is an expensive pan, that really doesn't offer enough applications to its use. I have used this for steaks and sandwhiches, it they have come out well, but I can't say it was due to the specialized pan, but rather they would have turned out well anyway.
Before buying this pan I would ask what do I intend to use this pan for. It is very heavy, and if storage space is at a premium I would get a non ridged cast iron skillet and enjoy a product with more of a range for cooking.
Heavenly! November 24, 2008 My grandmother had an old cast iron grill pan which I'd always coveted. Now I bought this one and it works beautifully. I couldn't be happier and use it regularly. Like all cast iron, it's heavy but is very much worth its weight.
The best indoor grill September 8, 2008 Grill your meat and veggies on this grill pan. They will taste like they were grilled on an outdoor grill. It also holds more food than it looks.
It is a cast iron pan. You need to pre-heat first before you put anything on it. I spray a cooking spray before I put meat on this. Clean up is easy. Just scrub it with a sturdy plastic brush under running hot water (not too hot). After that I put it on the stove and heat it up until the water evaporates. NO SOAP needed. Outside enamel gets blackened, but hey, this is cast iron. It meant to be rustic. Or try one of those special cleaners. I LOVE this grill.
Buy this pan, but only in the color BLACK July 4, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I live in the city, and don't have access to a grill. This pan makes perfect steakhouse grill lines on your pan. Just heat it really, really hot -- to the point of smoking -- on your stove first. Then turn on your broiler to High. Throw on a steak and shove it under the broiler. Two minutes later, rotate the steak 45 degrees. Flip steak and repeat. Professional gourmet steakhouse steak- I swear.
But this pan will get oil splatters on it that will turn black under high heat circumstances. Are you going to spend 3 hours scrubbing every nook and cranny with baking soda and a scotch brite? No! I won't either. So I live with the black oil stains, and take them as badges of honor for all of the previous delicious meals past.
However, I'm slightly OCD - and the black spots do bug me. I recommend this pan highly, just get the black color. You won't see any stains, and you'll just love this thing.
For panini fans: Get the panini press which fits with this perfectly.
The perfect San Francisco panini: Get a French roll, slice down the middle and slather the insides with olive oil. Lay on a few slices of prosciutto, a few roasted red peppers packed in water or oil (from your deli or condiments section of the grocery store), and a few generous slices of mozzarella. Sprinkle sandwich with a little salt. Grill in pan on medium heat until the first side is golden. Flip sandwich. Adjust heat so that when the second side turns golden, the mozzarella is just starting to melt. Bite into heaven.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! March 28, 2008 I agree with the other review. You need to KICK GEORGE GOOD-BYE!!! Since I have bought this George went bye-bye. He went in the away and will not be back. This is a great product. I love it!!! Makes great steak, panini with the press, veggies, etc. This is a must have LC product.
