The teaser price was wonderful July 24, 2008 About two weeks ago Amazon had this pot listed at $10.76 with super saver shipping besides. I swear. Be aware that 12 quarts is huge; I've only had 8 quart pots before this one. I can verify that you will get an 18/10 gauge pot, with a glass lid, made in China but it doesn't show, and a pamphlet with care and use instructions. It also has "an encapsulated aluminum disk bottom for quick and even heat distribution." The pamphlet also has a list, with pictures, of the other items they carry, as well as a printed 5 year limited warranty. There is no internet link listed, however, only an address to write to a P. O. box in Gardena, California, if you have a problem with your pot.
It's not easy to find information on the Metro brand of cookware or the company on the internet. Try www.housewares.com.au When that page comes up, click the Our Brands tab, and then select Other. This will tell you that the Metro brand was established in 1975. As near as I can tell, Metro Marketing has been taken over by another company, Housewares International Limited (abbreviated HWI). This is an Australian company; the US company information is as follows:
Metro Marketing 19400 S Western Avenue Torrance, CA, 90501 USA Tel: (310) 898 1888
I bought this pot for two express purposes, for making popcorn the old fashioned way, and cooking several ears of corn at one time. It did very well for popcorn; you don't have to use more than moderate heat for popping, and that did not damage the pan. Again, be aware that if you put liquid in this size pot, it is going to be very, very heavy.
