Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
This is an adequate no-frills manual bread slicer, and adequate is the operative word. The crumb catcher eliminates messes, making this slicer a much cleaner option than slicing bread on a cutting board. Also, you can achieve uniform 1/2-inch slices; the only caveat is that you can't adjust the slicer to cut any thicker or thinner. Use your longest serrated knife when cutting, because a knife that just barely spans the width of the slicing tray will keep slipping out of the acrylic slicing guides. The guides have no top support and tend to wobble a bit as you slice. They also have inexplicably high sides; you'd have to use triple the leavening to make bread that reaches the top of them. Despite its design limitations, the Norpro deluxe bread slicer is easy to assemble and maintain and has an attractive overall look. --Carol Gnojewski

3 out of 5 stars Norpro Bread Slicer w/ crumb catcger   September 2, 2008
Makes slicing bread easy except for the end panel (with BREAD printed on it) very sloppy fit, needs a bit of modification

3 out of 5 stars it's ok, so so.   September 1, 2008
this accessory is better that cutting freehand with a knife but still a challenge to keep the slices uniform. I've been using an electric knife with my Norpro and it works ok. the wood base is soft wood so you need to be aware not to slice too deeply. would I buy this again? yes.

1 out of 5 stars Just OK   August 31, 2008
The bread slicer seemed like a good idea but did not live up to its potential. As other reviewers experienced the plastic guide broke after I sliced 6 or 7 slices of bread. The plastic slice guides are way to flimsy. The 10 inch bread knife I ordered along with the bread slicer is great and you do need at least a 10 inch knife to use the bread slicer.

3 out of 5 stars decent guide   August 23, 2008
i bought this in the attempt to get more even slices it does well but you need a long bread knife other wise u only get an inch or two of cutting space if you have a shorter knife like i do then you will end up pulling out of the guide on one side and if your not carefull you can snap the guides its just acrylic plastic which is brittle but is a sturdier plastic then say plexi glass

5 out of 5 stars This thing is awesome!   August 13, 2008
My wife any I had just bought a bread machine and decided to start making our own bread. After baking our first loaf it was very apparent that we needed a bread slicer. It was as if I were a 5 year old trying to color and not being able to stay within the lines. We purchased this bread slicer because it looked like it was of good quality and we liked the crumb catcher.

This is a great slicer. I have sliced anything from sandwich loaves to french bread to bagels. Works great!
