Product Description Electric Knife Sharpener Easy Way To Sharpen Most Kitchen & Sport Knives To Razor Sharp Edge Professional 2 Stage System Precision Grids Perfect Sharpening Angle Then Fine Hones & Polishes The Edge Special Sapphirite Sharpening Wheels Are Made From Utra Hard Material Used In Professional Sharpening Shops No Guess Blade Guides Automatically Hold The Blade At Proper Sharpening Angle
Amazon.com Review All kitchen and sporting knives, whether professional quality or inexpensive, need a blade tune-up now and then. This electric sharpener produces razor-sharp edges using the same rapidly rotating Sapphirite grinding wheels used by professional shops. A two-stage system allows knives to be ground and sharpened on the Stage 1 half of the machine, and then honed on the Stage 2 half. Blade guides hold the knife at the ideal sharpening angle for each side of the blade, as it is drawn slowly towards the user and kept parallel to the countertop. The sharpener is suitable for knives made of alloy, carbon, or stainless steel; it is perfectly normal for sparks to fly when knives of high carbon steel come in contact with the Sapphirite wheels. Non-electric serrated knives that are only serrated on one side can also be sharpened with this machine. Three suction cups on the bottom hold the sharpener securely on a table or countertop, and two receptacles underneath catch metal filings for disposal. The sharpener measures 8-1/4 by 5-3/4 by 4 inches, and is covered by a two-year warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

wish I bought this earlier September 4, 2008 This knife sharpener works really good, especially for the money. I've bought a hand held knife sharpener from Chefmate a number of years ago -- worthless. I also tried buying a sharpening stone, couldn't get a good edge on any of my knives that way. I've also tried a two stage manual knife sharpener used with filet knives, with sharpening rods, not very good for my kitchen knives.
Nothing has worked for me, except for this Presto. It's easy to use. The only downside is that the stones rotate in one direction. When the sharpener faces you as I draw the knife through the left slots of each of the two stages, it catches a little, even with light pressure. That's why its not a five star from me. On the right slots of each of the two stages, I haven't noticed it catching. After sharpening, if I look closely, it looks like micro serrations.
excellent knife sharpener September 3, 2008 I got exactly what I was expecting. It does a great job and I couldn't be happier.
Good Product, But Be Careful September 3, 2008 I've used the Presto about 3 times. Very good product. I don't understand those who say the motor is under-powered. If anything, you need to be careful, as others have noted, about not over-sharpening, and thereby taking off too much. Since the wheels are recessed, you can't see the blade as you draw it across. Follow the instructions and don't sharpen too often and your knives should be fine. It's important to hone knives on a sharpening steel in between electric sharpening.
Gets them sharp, but too agressive. August 31, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Presto Pro EverSharp has never failed to get any of my knives sharp but it takes a lot of metal off your knife to get there. Motor gets rather hot after you use it for a few minutes so sharpening every knive in your drawer all at once isn't probably the best idea. The number 2 wheel on mine had a definate wobble to it, but it hasn't seemed to have affected performance much.
Low price is misleading... August 29, 2008 Does a terrific job of making knives razor sharp. You need to exercise care in the grinding stage to avoid removing more metal than necessary, but you don't have to do it very often. Honing is a breeze, and maintains the sharpness.
