Product Description The FD-61WHC Snackmaster Express All-In-One kit has a top mounted fan. Easily dries fruit, vegetables and jerky quickly and evenly. Dries food in hours not days. Comes with 5 trays and jerky gun. Unit disassembles easily and all parts are dishwasher safe except the power head. The Opaque Vita-Save exterior helps block harmful lights which destroys nutritional content of food being dehydrated. The Patented fan flow radial air action forces air down the center of the unit and horizontally across each tray for fast, even-drying. No need to rotate

Good product, good value December 1, 2008 Works great. Quiet operation. This unit comes with five trays, so it handles a good amount at a time. I bought this to help with the 'end of the year' harvest from the garden. Dried chili peppers quickly and handled large batches - So much easier than freezing them. It is easy to clean. The only downside is that we've turned into jerky addicts. Every time I put it away, it ends up back in use within a few days.
Great dehydrator! November 23, 2008 I bought this for my wife to dehydrate fruits for the kids. I bought the version with the jerky maker kit because I thought it might be cool.
I tried the jerky with the seasoning kit they include and the "caulk gun" like dispenser and it was fantastic.
There are plenty of jerky spice makers out there that are cheaper than Nesco but I havent tried them yet.
I has tried one that was not heated before buying this and in Texas it is worthless! Heat is the way to go to get quick results.
Great Little Dehydrator October 1, 2008 I got this from Santa last Xmas. What a nice appliance. I have used a couple of other dehydrators, and this one is the best one. Tho it doesn't say so in the description, mine came w/2 roll-up trays, and 2 clean a screen liners.
I have used mine to dry garlic for garlic powder. I use a Kyocera Adjustable Mandolin Slicer to slice the cloves thinly for drying. I have also dried hot peppers. I can't wait t try other stuff!
Pros: -Top-mounted power unit keeps it free of goop, seeds etc. -Adjustable temperature. -Fan circulated heat for even drying without rotating trays. -Fairly quiet, tho you'll know it's running. -Easy cleanup. This is where the top-mount power unit design shines. The bottom where all the goop drips goes right into the sink with the trays. -Clear instructions.
Cons: -Only one: No power switch. Plug in for on, unplug for off.
The instructions say top-rack dishwasher safe, but they are too big for my dishwasher. Not to worry, tho, because they clean up easily in soapy water. To dry, shake off the excess water, assemble the unit, and turn it on on high for a few minutes.
If you are looking for a dehydrator, this one should be on your short list!
Dehydrator with jerky gun June 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Oh my gosh ... the jerky is the best ever. My family and friends say "keep making it", and it makes the house smell delicious as it is drying. I haven't used the dehydrator for fruits or vegetables yet, but wouldn't mind just using it for jerky. I used ground turkey and the original seasoning mix, I can't believe how easy it is. One pound made about 30 pieces of jerky, and it only took about 5-6 hours to dehydrate. It does put out a bit of heat while running, and it does make a low noise. All is all this is fantastic, so glad I tried it.
Very satisfied May 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm very happy with the FD-61WHC Snackmaster. I have used it extensively since I got it for a wide variety of foods. I haven't done any jerky yet because I don't really eat meat so it's not a top priority. I have done herbs, veggies, and fruits, and they have all been excellent. Times are usually faster than the book suggests. I was worried about the heat it puts off since I live in a hot area, but it hasn't been a problem. It's the perfect size for me and a good value for the money, especially with the accessories. I belong to a Yahoo group on preserving that has given me tons of ideas for using my new toy.
