Boujour laser thermometer November 2, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have used the Bonjour thermometer for about a year. The thermometer is quite accurate (~1F). I have tested it in the oven and in the refrigerator. I find it very useful to measure the temperature of grills, hot frying oils, calphalon pans, heavy cast iron skillets, simmering sauces, woks, and oven stones. Measuring the temperatures of frying oils or getting the cast iron skillets really hot (600F) enough for searing steaks are ideal for the laser thermometers. I can now get a steak perfectly seared everytime resulting in a juicy and tender steak. The secret was getting the pan to the right initial temperature. Now the user should be beware that the temperature depends on the emissivity of the material, so measuring the surface of shiny pans (ex. my expensive french copper pans ) will yield the wrong temperatures. So far I have not yet figured out how to measure the temperatures in my favorite Dehillerin copper saute pan yet.

I rated it low as it is reading temperatures about 10-12 degrees low. I dont know where to get it fixed.
Do you know how hot you are? August 9, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful

I love this gadget! I would not have initially purchased this for myself, but now I absolutely love having this level of control over pan temperatures. I use this product at least 6 days a week. The only days this product is not used in my kitchen are the days that I don't cook.
I don't just use this product on the stove top I also use it to check the temperature of the pizza stone in my oven so that we get a crispy pizza crust every time. I also use it to confirm that the food that I am "holding" in a low oven is out of the danger zone for the days when dinner is delayed waiting for someone to get home. I also use this item to confirm that food has cooled down enough to go into the refrigerator without compromising the integrity of the food already in there. Additionally, I use this item to check the temperature of food inside the refrigerator to be certain that it is keeping food at below 40 degrees.
If you are a serious cook I cannot recommend this product strongly enough. Knowing the actual temperature of your pan, pizza stone and food translates into perfect results every time.
