Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars It is really nice, but...   November 12, 2008

I purchased this non-serrated blade upon purchasing the slicer because I read the other reviews saying you would need this blade if you wanted to be able to slice the meat really, really thin.

Well, since I bought the slicer in order to be able to make carpaccios at home, I immediately purchased this blade as well. When the slicer arrived (with the regular, serrated blade), I didn't want to wait for the additional blade before using it, so I proceeded to use the slicer with the provided blade.

I had the eye of round trimmed and frozen, then moved it for a few hours to the bottom drawer of the fridge so it was still frozen, but not so hard. When I cut it with the slicer, I was able to slice the beef as thin as I needed it. I have also been able to slice roast beef in very nice and thin slices (not as thin as the carpaccio) using the serrated blade, as long as it had been left in the fridge overnight prior to being sliced.

So, my conclusion is that the blade is great, absolutely nothing wrong with it, hence the 5-star review. But... I didn't really need it. If you are purchasing this slicer and haven't tried it yet, wait until you had a chance to do so before placing your order. You may feel the same way I did and save yourself some bucks. :)

Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars only way super thin cuts possible   July 29, 2008

Like other reviewer, my wife likes her Mongolian Hot-pot meats super-duper thin and this is the only way to accomplish that. It is necessary to freeze the meat and then thaw it just a little bit and start slicing while it's just a little less than rock-solid. Lamb & beef cuts thinner than paper are very doable this way.

Only negative really is that the there is no easy way provided to safely store the spare blade - both are sharp as heck. I just kept the original plastic wrapper this one shipped in but it's less than ideal.

5 out of 5 stars If your Buying A Chef's Choice Slicer you need This.   March 20, 2008

I purchased a Chef's Choice Slicer that came with a serrated edge blade which was good for slicing bread but horrible on meat and cheese. If your thinking of buying one then you need this blade. My wife likes her cold cuts sliced paper thin and this combo of blade and slicer gets pretty close to a commercial quailty.
