The blade has the ugly Splash pattern of etched overlapping circles. The handle works for slicing but is awkward for choking up on the blade for chopping. Sharp Surgical grade steel blade tapers toward the point from a good medium width. I bought 5 with over 70% discount, 4 for 3, and free shipping for Scout Camp Kitchen. It will do.

unless you are an aspiring chef or have allot of money to throw around, i do not see why you should buy a 100$ global knife - this is a very nice, balanced and sharp knife, i'd reccomend taking the change you have left from buying the cheaper knife and getting a good sharpener (and you will still have change) and sharpening the knife every so often thus getting an always sharp knife for half the price of a fancy chef's knife that will eventually get dull...
