Highly reommended! September 26, 2008 Buying these was, definitely, one of the best ever additions to my table. These bowls are the perfect size for chili, curry, soup, a pasta course, or a luncheon salad. They are self-insulating so keep foods hot for a long time and are, particularly, excellent for use in the microwave (hot food but no burned fingers). One of the things I like best about these is the fact that they don't look out of place on my Wedgwood or Royal Doulton - everyone who has seen them has said, "These are, really, nice ~ where did you get them from?".
Not What I Thought I Was Getting June 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered 4 white ones to add to a set of glazed pottery pasta bowls I've had for years. Although the glaze on these is bright white, so much of the underlying pottery is visible that the overall effect seems creamy, not a true white. With the unglazed bottom, they are more casual than elegant. These are the smallest pasta bowls I've seen, which may be why so many folks find other uses. They might have been good for my husband's super-sized morning bowl of shredded wheat, but I decided to return them.
scratches easily June 13, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I don't love these as much as I hoped. The white inside glaze has gotten dulled by grey scratches fairly quickly. Also I ordered four but one arrived broken due to inadequate packing materials.
My cheaper Williams-Sonoma and Pfalzgraff dishes seem to be holding up much better (although some of the Pfalzgraff arrived broken as well).
The red color looks very flat in the photos but seen up close it's actually kind of earthy and speckled, which I like, it has some character.
A new Emile Henry Fan April 12, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered four of the Emile Henry Couleurs Red Pasta Bowls and I have to say I'm a big fan! First, they are not lightweights but good, strong clayware. The red exterior glaze is beautiful and has a feel that's not glossy smooth but one that I love to run my fingers over! The interior is a beautiful glossy white. I collect American Art Pottery and I have to say these bowls are right up there with the glazes on some of my favorite pottery. The bowls were well packed and there was no damage to any of them on arrival. I've wanted to replace my dinnerware for quite a while and now I know what I'll be replacing it with!
I'm now a huge Emile Henry fan! March 18, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought the Cobalt Blue ones and I absolutely LOVE THEM!! At the time, I wasn't quite sure exactly what I'd be using them for but they quickly have become a favorite in my kitchen. They make WONDERFUL salad bowls, cereal bowls, pasta bowls, soup bowls not to mention fabulous serving bowls. I'm so terribly disappointed that they have discontinued the Cobalt color as I would have liked to complete my set but I like the quality and am in LOVE with the VIBRANT blast of color on these that I've decided to mix & match various colors. I only hope that Amazon will bring back the individual dinnerware sets so that I can do that.
These bowls are slightly larger than I would think I would use for ice cream (not that I wouldn't want to eat that much :-)) but I've used them every night to fill up on salad and have had several of them out on the table with various veggies and they make a beautiful presentation. Besides the vibrant splash of color, I love the design of these bowls in that they are wider at the base so there is no chance that they'll wobble like my other Pflatzgraff bowls.
Others have claimed that their items have arrived broken...while I agree that Emile Henry could package their dishes a lot better (one of my boxes of bowls had a thin layer of padding on the top of the box while the bottom portion was heavily padded...I got lucky and all 8 bowls arrived in perfect condition. There were a couple of bowls that had a teeny bubble in the glaze but it was minor and the others are flawless. Thank you, Amazon for pricing it so that I could afford them. I've wanted to try this line out for almost 8 years and was only able to because of your pricing. I only wish I had the entire cobalt set!!!
