Product Description " We're enchanted with our Stoneware Butter Keeper! Butter stays fresh, soft, and sweet for up to 30 days without refrigeration. By insulating, protecting, and cooling the butter, you can maintain it at perfect spreading consistency. Water is used to provide an airtight seal to protect the sweet taste of the butter. Simply place butter in the holder, pour cold water in the crock, and insert the butter holder into the crock. Keeps butter soft and spreadable. Attractive, heavy stoneware with navy trim. The holder inverts to make a handsome lid. One-half cup capacity to accommodate one cube of butter.
Amazon.com Review Butter stored in the fridge tastes like leftovers and tears up your toast, while butter stored on the counter spreads easily but goes rancid in days. What to do? Norpro has the answer. Simply pack the Norpro Butter Keeper's inverted lid with softened butter, put an inch or so of cool water in the base, and invert the lid on top. Water makes an airtight seal between lid and base, keeping butter soft, sweet, and spreadable for up to 30 days without refrigeration. (You'll need to replace the water every few days.) Looking equally at home on the counter or at the table, this ceramic crock features delicate blue bands and a handle on top. It measures four inches in diameter by 3-1/2 inches tall, and is completely dishwasher-safe. --Mary Park

Don't buy this from Amazon! October 27, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
One star isn't what I give the actual product, but rather the experience I had trying to get it from Amazon. The first arrived broken; they sent a second one; it arrived in even worse shape than the first. Other reviewers have complained about the same thing - obviously the shipping method being used isn't adequate. I ended up getting one elsewhere - all it took was a little bubble wrap and it arrived in perfect shape. The item itself is great, but I'd get it elsewhere!
Love it October 19, 2008 We love having spreadable butter right by the toaster. Works great, especially in fall/winter when the house is a little cooler. We tried one from a potter first because we liked the looks better, but it had a lip on the butter dish part that was hard to work around when removing butter and cleaning. The open bell is much better.
Butter Bell October 17, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great product, does the job, thank goodness for old fashioned technology. Liked it so much bought another for a friend! AND he loves it!
butter keeper October 3, 2008 This is an attractive, well-made and useful item. Put the butter in the top, add cold water to the base, invert the top and your butter will stay at room temperature (spreadable and easy to handle) and will not go rancid because no air can get to it.
Norpro Butter Keeper - Greatest thing next to sliced bread September 24, 2008 I bought this to replace another one I had had for years. It works great! It stays on the counter so it's always readily available and is always at a spreadable temperature. It'll hold one stick of butter and the butter stays fresh for about one week (probably longer, but we go through it quickly). Add cold water to just cover the bell when inserted into the crock and no air is allowed into the butter chamber preventing rancid butter. Replace the water once a day. Enjoy!
