Terrible product, terrible customer support November 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My mother bought the DeLonghi mixer DSM-7 (same as this except for 7 quarts instead of 5) on Amazon for my wife and within 6 months it stopped working (a gear that protects the motor broke). I called up Amazon who told me it had been too long and that we needed to deal with DeLonghi. I then took the mixer into a service center about 75 miles away (!). The service center didn't finish fixing it (due to approval, part receiving, etc) until 2 months (!) later. I then picked it up and brought it home only to have the machine break down again after 2 uses!! My wife didn't even use it for anything heavy-duty and didn't even use the full 7 quarts.
I then called DeLonghi today asking them to take it back. They wouldn't and told me that I could potentially be going back to the service center over and over according to their "warranty" (regardless of the same thing breaking over and over). Also, go to the DeLonghi website and try to find this mixer. You *won't* be able to. Hmmm... I wonder why.
Do not buy this mixer (DSM-5)or its 7-quart version and do not use DeLonghi products in general. They do NOT stand by their products. (Unless you like travelling to far off service centers or blowing over 400 dollars).
Oh and btw, our Kitchen Aid that we were replacing is still doing fine after 8 years! (We also bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond who stand by what they sell)
Best for the price August 18, 2008 Replaced previous two weak Kitchen Aids after the motors in it burnt. This machine is better looking, modern looking than the Kitchen Aids and with twice as much power. Unlike Kitchen Aids you don't have to wait, and turn off the machine every two minutes after kneading the dough. This has an automatic shut off feature that turns the motor off if overhead. This has not happened to me yet though. The only thing that I liked better in Kitchen Aid is -- it swept the bowl clean with its advanced planetary motion on mixing, whipping, and kneading. This machine leaves a tiny bit on the bottom or sides, so it may require you to scrape the bowl every once a while. But I will settle for that knowing this machine will turn on every time I turn it on.
Delonghi has no support network January 31, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Delonghi makes a great mixer but what happens when it breaks? Mine broke (motor) and it has been a year ordeal so far. Delonghi relies on service centers with limited experience and bad customer service (probably the cheapest). Go for a brand with an established service network or you will end up with a big beautiful paperweight.
I love it December 12, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered this product twice. The first time from different seller, and it was an open box item . The price was right, but the mixer was not. So, after I admired design, I bought it for the function, and it had to be returned. Kudos to the seller, everything went smooth. Then I checked on other stand mixers, and I still liked DeLonghi the best. I bake a lot, bread and cookies, and with an extra bowl (that is not offer through The Amazon and I can't figure why, when there is a bowl for DSM7), I was able to go through the most complicated cake ("Opera). I had to scrub walls of the bowl working with flat beater, but other than that, mixer was gliding through all jobs for a good half an hour without overheating. The splash guard was big enough to add hot sugar syrup, or any other powdery ingredient. Mixer didn't move an inch mixing three pounds of flour for bread, and was quiet. So far so good, but for the real evaluation ask me in ten years!
Non Stick finish peels December 2, 2007 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Great Mixer, BUT, the non stick finish on the flat beater and dough hook started peeling off (BAD) within 2 uses! Delonghi would NOT respond to numerous inquiries about replacements. I got the run around for MONTHS. They would take information then say they would call back. Did this NUMEROUS times. It's been almost 2 years now with it just sitting. So, I have the choice....either BUY replacements, or sell what has become a boat anchor. Basically, if you can live with the "I don't care" customer service from this company and are fortunate enough not to have a problem, then I'd say buy it.
