Amazon.com Review Ideal for baking pies and tarts, this 9-inch dish is a traditional French shape, with a wide, wavy rim for crimping crust and a smooth exterior that makes it welcome in contemporary kitchens. It can go directly from freezer to oven, into the microwave, under the broiler, and through the dishwasher without harming its glossy, lead-free glaze, which does not absorb odors or moisture and is so hard it will not crack, discolor, or scratch--even if food is cut on it. It measures 2 inches deep and weighs 2.4 pounds. Since 1850, Emile Henry cookware and bakeware have been made in Burgundy, where a unique clay is kiln-fired into a ceramic unsurpassed for conducting and retaining heat. Prized worldwide, Emile Henry products come in a wide range of colors, from the earth tones (with creamy interiors) of the rustic Le Potier line to the bright hues (with white interiors) of the Couleurs line, of which this all-white dish is a gleaming example. Each piece is stamped with the year it was made and the initials of the craftsman responsible for its perfection and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack
Product Description Present your best cherry, pumpkin or fresh strawberry pie in this stylish & sturdy pie dish. It is handcrafted of Burgundy clay that offers excellent heat conduction and retention, so pies bake and brown evenly. The rich glaze, applied by hand, makes each piece unique and provides a scratch-resistant surface that cleans up easily. Ridges on the rim produce a fluted-edge piecrust. About Emile Henry... In the Burgundy region of France is the legendary maker of fine French cookware named Emile Henry. There, potters still hand craft each piece from the local Burgundy Clay - one of the purest of clays, and finish each one with a process known as CERADON, which makes them extremely solid and durable. Containing no lead or cadmium, the clay is one of the best materials for baking and serving.

Exquisite June 30, 2008 Initially I added this to my Wish List because I thought it was beautiful. I was fortunate enough before I bought this to come across an 8 inch version of it in red at a Williams-Sonoma outlet for $10. Knowing how expensive this one was, I had to pick it up. I was immediately thrilled with the quality that I pulled out of the oven with the first pie I baked in it. After seeing just how lovely and functional Emile Henry bakeware is, I came back to Amazon and bought the larger pie dish in white.
The quality is stunning and I can't say enough about how beautiful it is. The addage is true that you get what you pay for, and in the case of Emile Henry it is a tradition of craftsmanship. Somehow the form and function of this pie dish just seems to make already good pies taste so much better.
Simply the BEST May 13, 2005 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Pies are perfect-Clean up is amazing!!! The cookware is absolutely beautiful. There are few things I pay good money for and even fewer things I end up not regretting.. This is one Pie dish you will never regret owning!. It's wonderful and still looks as bright and perfect as the day i took it out of the box.. I throw it in my dishwasher without pre rinsing too! And comes out looking as though I just brought it home.. I Make the best Apple Pies I ever ate..the crust is perfect every time. It would be nice to thank the man responsible for such a nice tool as this.
