5 out of 5 stars I borrow my brother in law's Senco   March 24, 2004

I read the negative reviews for the Senco AF25 nailer and I am surprised. I have used my brother in law's on and off for over a year to hang trim and finish furniture and I have yet to have a problem. In fact, I really like it!

2 out of 5 stars Spend the extra money and get a Paslode.   March 16, 2004

I picked this up a month or so ago and just finally used it for a large 10' x 10' bookshelf I made for a customer, made out of solid red oak. I used a variety of lengths of 18 gauge nails while attaching 3/4" thick fascia boards, crown molding, and mop board. Overall, the nailer worked "OK" at best. I had a hell of a time getting consistent countersunk depths, was very frustrating.

On one hand, I set then nailer so it just countersank the head of the brad, which is preferred as it doesn't expose any unstained wood and leave deep pocket marks. I would get a variation in depth, and nails wouldn't be countersunk at all at times. On the other hand, if I adjusted it to a deeper countersunk setting, the driver would often get stuck in the wood. I would have to pull up on the nailer to get the little driver pin unstuck. Of course, the head of the pin is slightly bigger than the head of a brad, so it left a nasty mark as well.

Combine the variation in countersunk depths along with a lot of misfires, no operation at all when the trigger was pulled, and a recoil or kickback that seems unusual for a nailer this size... and you've got a product that isn't worth the $280 pricetag.

I'm in the process of returning this tool and will be spending the extra $100 and purchasing the Pasload. I learned the hard way, I nearly wrecked a very expensive bookcase design for a client in the process. I usually only purchase the best tools, but thought I'd save a little extra this time. Lesson learned for me... you definately get what you pay for.

1 out of 5 stars Defective design   January 21, 2004

I bought this tool last year for my woodworking shop ,i am a proffessional cabinet maker and ocasionaly i install mouldings at the customers house.I needed a portable tool for this, but not for my shop were i use the compressor.
In the begining it worked okay but 10 months later it stoped working, i took the tool back to the store and they gave me a new one ( SENCO has a very good return policy). Two months later the new one brakes down to.I think this tool has a defective design. If you are a proffesional, dont buy it until SENCO fixes the bugs.

If I had this nailer 2 years ago, I'd be done with my trim projects. Being a father of 3 demanding but wonderful children I have little time between soccer games and dance practice to install trim. In addition, my wife is not available to help as someone has to watch the kids! I can install most trim (up to about 6 feet) by myself. Normally, I needed someone to help hold the trim while I used my hands to hold the hammer and nail. Not anymore. A couple trigger pulls and it's done. And not to mention the nail set stage is no more!! This is a great tool for the handyman. Not sure about contractors or folks who do this on a regular. But, it was well worth the money. Now I have time to write a review!

2 out of 5 stars flavordave couldn't be more right   June 27, 2003

just like flavordave, i bought one of these for my shop. i figured it would be a great tool to take for small installations where bringing out a hose and compressor takes more time than the actual work. needless to say, mine also had its issues--- winding up and winding down without shooting... and nails sticking out of the project. i used mine very few times... when it did work, it was great... but i need a gun that is 99.999% reliable, so i too will stick with the hoses for the time being. On a bright note, the good people at SENCO are EXCELLENT concerning warranties and their products. They took care of me immediately after a simple email.
