Awesome June 11, 2003 100 out of 107 found this review helpful
Shear power. At 390in./lbs. of torque I have been having trouble trying not to shear the heads off of galvanized screws (pre-drilled w/countersink). I've tried both speeds, and all of the clutch settings. This has forced me to drive screws 7/8 of the way home and finish off the deal by hand. I just finished using this Panasonic to drill 3/4" x 2 3/8" deep holes into a hardwood workbench for bench dogs. The Panasonic maintains constant speed under strain, and while getting hot, it did not overheat. The only reason I would need to stop was to let the fostner bit cool down. The 3.5 amp NiMH batteries are A+++++. The kit comes with two, so you always have one in the ready. One charge lasts a full day under heavy use. The drill is well balanced and has good ergonomics. The electronic brake stops on a dime. This can't be good for the brushes, but no problems so far. I like the weight of this drill, it is substantial but not too heavy. The best feature of all - SMALL DRILL BITS WILL NOT SPIN IN THE CHUCK. WOW I will probably dedicate the 15.6 volt to drilling and buy the Panasonic 12 volt cordless for driving screws. The 15.6 easily overpowers cheaply made screws. Highly recommended!!
great drill motor June 3, 2003 I have a small electrical contracting business and have tried several different cordless drills, (DeWalt, Mikita and Ryobi). I had four DeWalts and had to have everyone in the repair shop at some point in time. I have been using the Panasonics now for about 15 years and have yet to send one to be repaired. As with all the drills I replace them when the batteries go bad.
Best I've ever owned June 2, 2003 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
I'm just a weekend warrior but I use this drill a lot. In the last 6 months, the drill has given me absolutely no problems. The NiMH batteries hold an impressive charge and have no memory. I simply use one battery until its discharged and then switch to the other that is stored in the charger. I've used NiCd batteries is the past. NiCd batteries don't work nearly as well as NiMH batteries. I won't buy a cordless tool with NiCd batteries unless there is no other option. The drill has all the features that I need: keyless chuck, drill setting, as well as 16 different drive settings. I'm very happy with this purchase!
Waste of my time and money! May 7, 2003 22 out of 50 found this review helpful
I needed a new cordless drill. My old Makita is getting cranky after 15 years of use.Bought the EY6432 on Amazon in Feb. 03. It got high ratings from Fine Homebuilding and the 3.5 NiMh batteries are awesome (I don't like the toxic waste of Ni-Cads). It seemed nifty out of the box. The drill burned out within two weeks of light use repairing some decks: driving 3 inch screws into green lumber. Literally smoked.
