Defective Batteries-Complaint corrected by Milwaukee July 18, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I wrote this several months ago: "This was a great drill as long as the batteries could be recharged. The first battery went out after one year, the second, after two years. Moderate household use, and I followed the manual's recharging instructions. A new 14.4v battery from Amazon costs $59. I have other cordless power tools, including another Milwaukee, and the batteries have been able to be recharged indefinitely. Something is wrong with the batteries that come with this tool." I gave the drill one-star. Since writing that review in July, 2007, I contacted Milwaukee's tech service online, and the problem with one battery was corrected; I was sent a newer battery that seems to be working fine. I also bought another new-type battery from Amazon ($49). The drill has always worked well, with good power, weight, and strength. I change my review to 4 stars because Milwaukee has proved to be a conscientious company that responds to its customers complaints. Purchasers should read the "recharging batteries" instructions very carefully.
Undefeated champion June 10, 2007 I've owned this drill for six months. Nothing stops it, nothing hurts it, nothing beats it. The batteries are more than enough for my woodworking shop and recharge faster than I can drain them. This is a better-built product than you expect, so raise your expectations.
Nice, solid drill January 3, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my first Milwaukee product. It replaces a Bosch 13.2 volt drill whose batteries had finally failed. Had replacement batteries been less expensive, I would not have replaced the Bosch as it was an exceptional tool.
As such, this purchase was a reluctant one. Having said that, I find it to be an excellent tool. It has the same solid feel, good trigger control and one-handed chuck that made the Bosch such a good tool. In addition, the exceptionally clever reversible battery design and the great belt clip elevate this tool to a new level.
Why not five stars? My only complaint is that there is an annoying smell from the brushes. I expect that this will diminish over time, but it tends to trigger the "uh-oh" response and, as such, detracts from an otherwise thoroughly satisfying experience.
Poor Battery Life November 9, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I replaced my 9.6V Makita with this Milwaukee 14.4. I charged up the batteries and used it on some projects. When the 1st battery went dead I put the 2nd battery in. The 2nd battery was probably charged 3 or 4 weeks prior. It didn't last very long before needing charging. This was never a problem on my Makita. Other than that I like it fine. I has plenty of power and seems well constructed. I'm just disapointed in the battery life. Ironically I got a prompt for this review the same day I got Consumers Report reviewing Cordless Drills. This drill came in #23 out of 39. It got a "Fair" rating for run time.

The Very Best as usual from Milwaukee tools. November 6, 2006 You will not be disappointed with this driver drill. Be careful though it has enough torque to twist your arm off, when you set the clutch on the highest setting. The clutch adjuster has many settings for accurate torque settings for all types of fasteners. The chuck is precision and keyless and drills do not slip. Far superior to any Makita tool that I have owned, but then Makita is a lot cheaper. You get all that you pay for with this product, as with all the Milwaukee tools that I own.
