compact and convenient January 21, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really love the light weight and ergonomic feel.It has good power and is solidly built. The trigger on mine feels sticky and I catch myself checking if I'm half way between foward and reverse,I may get used to it but it bugs me for now. What really bugs me is it isn't variable speed like the 14v model.
It's all marketing January 2, 2008 5 out of 10 found this review helpful
I ordered this as a lightweight solution to do simple house chores (hanging curtain rods, blinds, etc.). I wouldn't even recommend it for that. The trigger is terrible. They promote it as a variable speed unit, but it's far from it. It's also cheap plastic, and probably won't withstand a fall more than once. Spend a bit more and get the Bosch or Milwaukee subcompacts for around $120.
Sexy but Crude December 29, 2007 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
My wife got me this drill driver for Christmas and I have to admit that it is a sexy looking item. However, beauty is only skin deep. I've owned Black and Decker rechargable drills and drivers since the first Versapack came out, including the Fire Storm series, and this new VPX is lacking in many of the ways the earlier ones excelled. First, it is a two speed where the others were all variable speed Secondly, instead of a smooth pull on the trigger to turn it on it seems to catch and there is an annoying click. Thirdly, it has no place to attach the driver bit. All the others had either a magnetic spot or a clip on the top or side where you could place the bit when not in use. I guess they expect you to drop the bit someplace and find it the next time you want to use it. I've not had a chance to actually use this yet but my feeling is that it would be good for someone who had no experience with previous models or for someone who only wanted a small drill driver to keep in the kitchen drawer for extended periods to use once in a while since its main advertising point is that you can keep it around for a long time without the battery going dead.
Nice and strong little lightweight December 25, 2007 I have this and really like the drill, it has a lot of power for a 7 volt. It has a clutch and fits into small spaces. Its the perfect size and wont make your arms hurt if you have to work overhead. I would recommend it. Keep in minde it doesn't come with the battery. I hag the starter set that came with the batteries and charger so i did not need to purchase extra when i got the drill. Enjoy!
